It's not like I'm picking Cope, Long or Crash. If Richard Petty was racin today and he was one of my picks he would never win a race...

Yike. Hopefully you've run out of Smoke picks for the rest of the season.

Rubberhead didn't show for the Wind Tunnel show tonight, he sent Shrub in his place saying he had a last minute obligation in Detroit. Does Roush have offices in Detroit? May have something to do with the dominoes being put in place otherwise he just baled on Dave because he wrecked today.

Roush Performance does have offices in the Detroit area, and I believe Penske North (the IRL operation) also is run out of Michigan. I doubt that either Roush or Penske would use their Michigan operations for NASCAR business though. If it's legit, it could also be either Ford or Dodge doing a deal with him.

More likely, he bailed because he was a victim of BadYear.

LOL, you're right, we outsmarted ourselves. Guess that's why we are not crewcheifs, huh?

Has the weather come through there already?

Jack's the only crewchief here.

Boy did it ever come through. We dropped about 20 degrees with a lot of rain/thunder/some hail.

Then it went away as quickly as it came. Did it come far enough southwest to get you?

UPDATE: ESPN's Mike Massaro is reporting that Roush Racing has released 2004 Nextel Cup Champ #97 Kurt Busch from his 2006 contract obligations, allowing Busch to go to the #2 Miller Lite Dodge that Rusty Wallace will be retiring from at the end of 2005. ALSO Massaro is reporting that Jamie McMurray has been released from his 2006 Ganassi Racing contract to drive the #42 Texaco Dodge, allowing him to go to Roush Racing, taking over for Busch in the #97/#28 car or whatever number they will use. So......who goes to the #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge? I am still hearing it'll be Bobby Labonte, and other reports have Ricky Rudd taking the #42 ride over.(10-31-2005}Thanks Jayski

From DEI re: COT.

Gary Nelson, NASCAR’s vice president for research and development who has orchestrated the construction of the car, said teams that normally build 16 to 18 cars a season will need 10.

Richie Gilmore, the director of motorsports at DEI, said teams would need to budget an additional $3 million to $3.5 million a year for the first year or two to build the new cars that gradually will be implemented into the sport.

“That’s a big investment for teams out of the box,” he said. “It’s going to take two or three years to recoup that.”

NASCAR officials have indicated they would like to use the car in at least one race late next season, perhaps at Talladedga Superspeedway, where the first test was held.

Tony Eury Jr., the crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr., is concerned about the car’s outer shell and what will happen if the splitter is damaged.

“You tear up that thing ... your day is done,” Eury Jr. said.

Eury Jr. said NASCAR is creating a situation like the International Race of Champions, where all the cars are the same. Nelson said the cars would maintain a brand identity with the nose and rear bumper coming from the manufacturer.

He added there is enough gray area in the design that teams will be able to find competitive advantages.

The overall shape of the car is 4 ½ inches wider and two inches taller than the current car. The seat has been moved four inches closer to the center of the car to enhance driver safety.

“The seat is a little different,” said Edwards, who celebrated Sunday’s win in his motorcoach watching the Discovery and History channels. “The biggest thing is pulling into the garage. You only get a couple of inches on the left side. You’ve got to be careful not to rip the left front fender off.”

Per Jayski:
* #55 for Mikey? UPDATE Skinner to the #22? hearing Michael Waltrip will run the #55 in the NAPA Bill Davis Racing Dodge. DEI chose to keep the #15.(10-28-2005)
UPDATE - Skinner to the #22? Forget those Ward Burton returns stories for Bill Davis Racing next season. Mike Skinner will drive the Caterpillar Dodge #22 in 2006, teaming with Michael Waltrip in the NAPA #55.(RacingOne)(11-1-2005)

[why in the world would they take Skinner over Ward Burton?????]

I don't think I have ever seen Skinner smile? He reminds of the cartoon character with the rain cloud that followed him everywhere. His name was something like Mr Spttt!

I guess he means the boxy shape.

You are certainly up early! I'm still on daylight savings time, it takes me a least a month to get used to the time change.

FYI for the thread....

This is from Channel 8 here in Dallas
NASCAR has changed the starting time for the Dickies 500 on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway to 2:50 p.m., 30 minutes later than previously announced.
The change was made to allow NBC to move directly from the race telecast to a unique, live episode of The West Wing.
“We are extremely pleased that NBC appreciates the magnitude of this race and pairs it with one of their most popular and highly acclaimed shows,” said TMS president Eddie Gossage.
The move also ensures a finish at night under the lights.
“The race will serve as a trial run for the sort of night-time spectacle you expect at a facility such as this,” Gossage said. “Someday I’d love to start and finish a Cup race here under the lights.”
The new starting time will not alter the start of the “Coca-Cola Zero Pre-Race Extravaganza,” which will begin at 11 a.m. as originally scheduled.

I am not clear on the concept. Does this mean that if the race runs long they will cut to the West Binge...
