I always thought Marillion was a more melodic and poetic version of Rush, at least along genre lines.

You are right, Marillion is a superb band, except when they start going in the uncharted territory of the political movement.
I would dare to say that Marillion music genre is some were between Pink Floyd and Rush. (Rush also delves into political conundrum as well, so is Pink Floyd if you will)

Barclay James Harvest is a British band a mix between Alan Parsons Project and Marillion.
Jean Michel Jarre is one man band all Techno of French heritage with fascinating and eerie sounds transcending the realm of reality.
Most known album is "Oxigen"

As a side note, on XM Satellite Radio channel 41 and 42, you will get all the "Hair"/"Metal" Bands and some more. It is a blast!
You should try it!...it is worth it!

Wow - I am impressed - two posts mentioning Marillion. When I tell people I am a metal head (Metallica, Megadeth, Kiss, Judas Priest, etc.) then also state Marillion - most people never heard of them. I admit I dont' like the new Marillion as much - always preferred Fish. Actually got to see him in concert here in the 'burgh a few years back on my birthday. Brother 52 tour...

Seen the Kinks, Kiss (4x), Priest, Metallica, Pink Floyd, etc all here in Pittsburgh.
