Anyone in a 4+ octave bell/chime choir?

The supplied files are my arrangement of Gustav Holst's "In the Bleak Midwinter" arranged for four octaves of either handbells or handchimes. It is supplied here for use in the 2005 Christmas season. I may render it fully into the public domain but do not do so at this time.

Performance Notes:

  1. The four supplied pages are formatted to be printed as two pairs of facing pages (e.g. as pages 2 through 5 of a six-page leaflet). If they are printed in this way, there will be no annoying page turns.

  2. The music is set according to the four verses of the original. Although vocal parts are not provided herein, it would probably work well as an accomaniment for a vocal solo or small group.

  3. In mm. 4-6, if available a tubular bell such as a pipe organ chime may be substituted for the A3 handbell or handchime.

  4. In mm. 22 and 26, if an A7 bell or chime is available, it may be added in beat 3 (as a quarter note).

  5. There are many "let vibrate" notations for upstem or downstem notes only. Note that on some of these, some notes are doubled. For example, in m. 31, the E4, B4, and G#4 should all be let vibrate even though they are "also" upstem eighth notes.

  6. On page 3, the beaming of the upstem treble clef "let vibrate" eighth notes has been set to match the "let vibrate" patterns.

I should have posted this earlier, but perhaps someone will still be able to use it this year. It's a sheet music arrangement of "In the Bleak Midwinter" I did last year. I wrote it for my church's Handchime® choir, but it should work with bells also. If anyone would like to take a look at it, I'd be interested in feedback. I'd also like any advice on how to convert the .EPS files to Acrobat with an added cover page (I have the cover on a different computer from the sheet music).

When I was a little kid we had a set of bells, they were each colored differently and had music with like colored notes. Does that count?

Nope, but when I was in Vocal Ensemble in high school we also played the bells and I loved it. Very cool stuff. Yeah, I know I didn't help but thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Put it in Breaking News....??

Sorry, I can't be more help. I think lots of folks just never check out the Chat Section, only stay in News. Oh, I just had an idea: post an article on Harriet Miers in News, and then slip in your bell comments below. :)
