More proof that no transaction can be made simple enough for someone not to screw up; and, more to the argument that no one ever notices the big mistakes. I would bet that that clerk followed every rule in the book; they were not hired to make judgment calls, they were not tasked with making judgment calls, so why should this surprise us?

because i work in retail Ive worked in retail for 7 years. Ive seen people try this. Im sorry but if a computer rings up that cheap Im going to be asking some questions. yet alone it comes up on the screen as a HAMMER. the guy took a sticker off a hammer and put it on the computer. The local news reported that. I sure would have noticed that on my screen in front of me. ha. Maybe Im just being harsh I dont know. If am Im sorry but people have there heads in the clouds way to much.

...they were not hired to make judgment calls, they were not tasked with making judgment calls, so why should this surprise us?Exactly. They dumbed down cash registers so they could hire cashiers at a lower wage. Letting a high-priced item through every now and then is probably worth it compared to hiring (and paying) competent employees.
