Well, I'm home. Not a very fun day. But at least its over.

Maybe I can get in a thousand or so words tonight, if I work at it. My mind is kind of mush right now.

When we were at ecurbh's folk's house, one of his nephews (4-5 years old) had an absolute fit refusing to swallow it. If he spit them out, we wouldn't get dessert. He sat at the table and ~screamed~ for a good 15 minutes, with green beans in his mouth and tears and drool running down his face.

It was enough to put us off sex completely for at least a week :~D

I told her how to do it without installing anything... I gave her links to a couple of smiley sites and that she can just copy gifs she likes and paste them into the email... but it took a while to get it all to work. :~D

He was ~adamant~ that he didn't want to swallow them. But he also knew his dad really meant it when he said "No dessert if you don't eat your beans!"

Heh. I don't recall Mom ever really forcing us to eat anything. Once or twice she made me ~try~ something like cauliflower or brussels sprouts. I don't thing either of us were super finicky... just a few things that we would not eat.

I like green beans ... and I make a killer green bean casserole.

Use 1 part cheese sauce to one part cream of mushroom soup.

I don't force my kids to eat anything. I've just taught them to be polite when they don't like something.

And they ~must~ at least try it before saying they don't like it.

Or maybe I'm just a lazy mom.

I remember ~some~ of the 'you have to at least try it' stuff...

But I managed to get through childhood without having to eat a lot of squash or liver or brussels sprouts...

I remember with brussels sprouts, I physically gagged. That was enough :~D

Actually, this was a "just try it" situation... he was only dished up one bite that he had to eat. He just had his mind made up that he didn't want to even try it.

I can't stand milk and eggs because my mother forced me to eat them when I was little. I can't stand the smell of raw eggs; I hold my breath when I crack 'em. I can eat omlettes now, but only if there's enough other stuff in 'em --- ham, bacon, sausage, onions, garlic, olives, tomatoes, cheese --- to hide the egg.

And, yet, I love egg nog.

'Zactly. Yours was pretty much Mom's approach. You're not allowed to hate something until you've tried it.

But fortunately I think we liked enough things that the stuff that was left just wasn't worth fighting over.
