The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've been writing since about 6:30. My plan was to go to the gym at 4:00 when the Mrs. left for the airport, then to come home and write and help Nana get the boys ready for school.

Didn't make it to the gym. But got started on the other stuff.

"So... there I was at thirty thousand feet when... suddenly out of the dark and stormy night, came the best of times... and the worst of times. "

"...and I threw the badger out. As God is my witness, I thought badgers could fly!"

Got a few words down this morning. A blank page can be pretty intimidating.

Well I have a report to write at work and a pile of data to make that has to go in it. So no nano sneaks at work for me today. :(

Yeah....almost have this thing licked. I think stretching did the most good.

Well, these little bands around my feet all night have done a world of good. They don't look like much but it's just the thing!

I got some shoe inserts (generic drug store kind) and did the stretching. I'd put some cold on it sometimes.

Right now it doesn't hurt much unless I spend too much time on my feet...er, foot.

I'm anxious to continue, but I'm going to try to be good here at the office. Still, I have this flash drive...

I changed the opening this morning. Realized that my dead guy was a political consultant in DC, so had his wife fly TO Mississipp for the funeral. Lots of background (and there's more) there describing the flight.

But it's thrown me. I'm not sure when to do the flashback now. I still think it's when she finds out about "The Other Mrs. Hubbard" (that's the working title). But now it's going to put that further along in the book.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Mine is very bad, both feet. It started after one of the days I was out mowing pasture last summer. When I stand up, excruciating pain for the first four steps and then it gets a little better. And I get pain when I walk or am on my feet too much, like when you were here. Walking on concrete kills me. I looked at the path they were gonna take for that nature walk at Mt. St. Helens, and said uh uh.

I've been wearing the generic shoe inserts for a couple months.... it was definately getting worse. But I'm hopeful that by spending more money on better shoe inserts, I'll deserve to get better ;~D

I'm encouraged that these little bands helped so much last night. They're sortof like this one.

No hopping and grimacing the first four steps when I got up.

I like to put the expose stuff farther back so the reader does not have too much information too early on. Yeah, Trying not to writing anything here. I have plenty of work to do so that should not be too hard. I still need to come up with a rank structure and more details on the military branch my commando squad is from... and the councilman's background, and....

argh

Just stretching helped so much for the first steps in the morning.

But you see, for we Southron authors, the "expose stuff" is as important as the story itself...

Everything I set up in the opening is the prelude for ~why~ my characters respond as they do.

I usually write all the "expose stuff" first in the rough draft and then later move it around to the rest of the story.

And Lordy, am I tired!

Thank you for sharing that note, winmag. Makes me realize just how "easy" my day is going to be compared to theirs.

Well I could name them for a furry upland domestocated herd animal. But this is on a planet that is not earth and the people are not from earth either so llama's are right out. Unless they are from the future I guess....
