The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That's what the jedis have for lunch today...frito pie with Wolf brand chili and cheese. As far as I'm concerned, there's no better chili.

"Neighbor, when was the last time you had a big thick steamin' bowl of Wolf brand Chili?"

I think the tide has turned, Rosie...once an employer knows what a good worker you are, they'll either try to hire you or the temp agency will try to keep you working. It's the way it is with nursing agencies too.

One of my favorite movies... but dang... it just goes on and on and on and on... :-)

Heh...some of our other favorite movies fit in that category, too...

But I like watchin' 'em in chunks.

I guess if nothing else, I have a local place on my resume. And I'm really trying to work hard and do a good job...that's gotta be worth something, I guess.

I just have no idea how many jobs the staffing agency generally handles - how often PC and admin jobs are in their database. Maybe in the next couple days I'll stop by and talk to the lady from the staffing agency and make her aware I'll likely be available for work (sounds better than "desperately working, don't it?) in a few month's time.

Gggg...make that "desperately looking".

I've got working on the brain.

Time for bed!

Now that you mention it... I suppose they do. :-)

I've always liked it for being close to how I perceive the Soviet revolution as it really was. Brutal and bureaucratic and spartan. It was of course an anti-soviet view of Russia... but at the same time provides a hugely pro-Russian view of the great strength and beauty of Russia's history and its people.

Russia... like a work of the great masters, a Rembrandt, painted over with a watercolor of cold sterility.

Yeah...he's a real funny fellow. Kinda dry sense of humor.

You know, when my parents were trying to buy their house here, Steve and I had a bit of a savings set up so we could buy a house (down payment). When my folks put the bid on the house, they went to put the earnest (sp) money down and come to find out their bank had already closed. I said "Don't worry, you can borrow our savings!" We're talking a couple of thousand bucks. It was such a relief to them and it worked out just fine.

That's the kind of person I am.

I wouldn't have defaulted on a credit card bill and left them to pay it. I wouldn't take their money and not give it back. It's not who I am. After 42 years...they still dont' know who I am.

I don't know if this will make any sense, but when I took psychology (which I thought was heavily laced with crap), there was a few things that sounded reasonable and one of those things was that when a person has a bad self-concept, they transfer that concept on others. What they are in their hearts, they are convinced everyone else is...and I think that may be the case here.

It's very much a sad shame and I'm not feeling upset or distressed...just regret.

The potato soup was so good I'm considering writing Campbell and telling them the whole story! LOL!

Definitely keep your face and name in front of them! My agency I worked for literally got to know me and my kids and my whole situation because I made sure of it!

Letting them know you are eager to work is different in an agency...they LOVE seeing it. You won't look desperate...you'll look enthusiastic!

Hey, just getting on before I head to bed. Good job getting that pictoral directory fixed...aren't friends wonderful!

Funny story about your parents...if they got the bill, does that explain why your payment was late and can they refund the service fee?

We've been busy here. I made a dog bed for the dogs that goes in the bottom of their kennel. Took old jeans and made a kindof patchwork cover for some foam. This morning Ginger got up early and tore a nice size hole in it. I caught her ripping out the foam. Sunday morning she killed another chicken...that's three or four now (I've quit counting). She's also a digger and has brought at least three turtles up into the yard to chew on. I got a good deal on a 6x10 pen that she has been confined to but the writing is on the wall. The lady who brought her here says she'll take her back, but I hate to give a dog like this to someone else. Maybe if she could be an indoor dog or if someone had a fence to keep her in. She has just been such a trial and stress. Vader on the other hand has been great...so that's a blessing.

I'm doing a sewing project with thegirl...and she got braces yesterday...glad g'nad has a job.

We have shared learning tomorrow...it will be a good day (as long as Ginger doesn't jump the fence while we're gone to have a little snack).

Rosie...I'll bet the next job comes much faster now that your foot is in the door.

Ruthie...our family in Miami Lakes got power this afternoon (right after she threw away the stuff in her frig) so there is hope.

Mrsnad

I agree with the otehrs. Update your résumé, highlight anything Window-sy you've done, and keep looking!

Have you tried Craig's List for Denver? I've tried it, and gotten good leads.

I've never had a dog that DIDN'T shred stuff and get into all kinds of stuff at LEAST until they were pretty near adult. If Vader isn't doing stuff like that...that's more unusual than Ginger doing so, IMO.

We never had chickens, though. That's kind of another story. I dunno how I'd deal with that.

Naw, we paid it late last month...my folks got this month's statement and paid it! The late fee was from last month.

The whole thing is such a mess. I haven't heard from them since early today.

We're not really that close to Denver. I do check Craig's list now and then, but it mostly is really Denver oriented - there hasn't been much up this way, and I'm just not gonna deal with that kind of commute and traffic and all that goes with it. I'd rather crawl home to Vermont with my tail between my legs than do that.
