Ok, come out of the woodwork. We know you are out there, doing needlework at your computer terminal. Knitters, cross stitchers, crocheters and others. What's your craft? Wanna share? Want to form an online knitting circle or whatever?
Just like you can tell a real knitter when they see k1 p1 yo - they know that doesn't spell Kipiyo....
kipiyo kay ay ; )
That is a cool sampler...I like samplers. There are some gorgeous historical ones out there, and it's hard to think that most of them were made by grade school aged and junior high aged girls.
LOLOLOL!
it made me think of cowboys, what can i say?? ; )
I can crochet, quilt, tat (very badly), sew, embroider, cross stitch, needlepoint, make lace (badly) and knit (REALLY BADLY!).
Most of my 'needle' crafts for the last few years have either been utility sewing (curtains, bedspreads), costumes...which require LOTS of beading and handwork, a gift quilt and that's about it.
I can see babes wearing knits ;)
I can remember my Grandmother standing by the fireplace, holding me in her arms, and telling me that Huey Long [Long died before I was born] was a wicked man who wanted to "take from those who work and give it to those who do not work". She planted the seeds that grew into my poliltical philosophy. Later when I was 8 or 9 years old she taught me to embroider, crochet, tat, and sew. I mostly do needlepoint now. My Grandmother's influence in my life was profound in every way. I miss her every day.
I can do needlepoint and cross stitch, though both are tough on fingernails. I have tried to knit, and I would love to be able to knit fisherman knit sweaters, but I find it difficult.
My main craft is crocheting. I find crochet cotton hard to work with, so I focus mostly on afghans. I have tried to crochet a baby afghan for all new babies in the family, including cousins, but I don't always get them done.
I find crocheting to be very theraputic. When I crochet, I sink into my thoughts and relax, working out the stress of the day. I mostly crochet at swim meets when my kids are competing. I get a lot of young children who come over to watch me crochet. Occasionally, I get a comment from an adult.
One elderly lady told me once how she and her girlfriends "back in the day" would take their knitting to the movie theater and knit while watching the movies. I can't quite figure out how that would be done, but I guess if you have done it enough, it becomes second nature.
Crocheting is my escape from the world. Wonder what non-crafters do to get away?
Please re-think your decision to declaw your kitten. Many vets abhor it, it's cruelty to cats. It takes away a vital function, they can never defend themselves or even exercise properly.
Please do a little research on it.
Ooooh, aaaaah.
Samplers are so cool! You have done a nice job; LOTS of backstitching! Thanks for sharing!
Those women are beautiful.
Can we add some keywords to this thread, like "cheap therapy" or "insanity prevention"? At least, those are two benefits of crafting to me!
You know, that is really a nice story. I think of my grandparents a lot, too.
I recently found a quilt pattern called "All Roads Lead to Olive's". Well, Olive was my craftier grandma's name, so I guess that means I am going to have to learn to quilt!
Feel free to keyword!
I see my son go crazy at times. He skateboards and he plays video games. He won't even try anything else, although he has had crafts at school, and we encourage him...
Mark for later...
I'm busy scanning some Hemstitching directions for a class I'm teaching this evening. ;-)
I'll be back!
Pinz
That's great. Now,if you have some time on your hands, can you knit me a replica of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?
