Ok, come out of the woodwork. We know you are out there, doing needlework at your computer terminal. Knitters, cross stitchers, crocheters and others. What's your craft? Wanna share? Want to form an online knitting circle or whatever?
I've been meaning to go to Shepherd's Bush for two years...But I am definitely known at the Needlepoint Joint. They are the reason why I ought to have stock in INOX...can't find a set of needles, just go to the Needlepoint Joint...they'll have whatever size I want...

This is it. I have told my hubby that I am going there today. It is like a block from where we work. I pass it by every day when I leave work, but the parking right next to it is bad so I keep on going down the street. I can't stand it any more. I want to see what's there!

I do understand the parking situation deterring you, though, but i would have him drop me off and pick me up so as to avoid that. i just really like their style of design and the shop looks lovely from the online pix. i am not big on historical designs so much, but after stitching for about 15 years now i have gotten pickier about what i will spend my time on. i like interesting fibers and fabrics, and only certain designers appeal to me. their style appeals.
from the online tour the place looks HUGE. i am lucky, in NoVA, i have three very good shops nearby, but with the cost of square footage here being much more costly than Ogden, there is NO store that is that big. i always like to visit xs shops when we go on vacation,Williamsburg, VA, has a very nice one called Haus Tirol.
I like to do needlepoint, not necessarily basket weave, but the more interesting counted stitches...and I am always looking for places with nice fabrics and nice threads.

Shepherd's Bush is on 24th St. Needlepoint Joint is on 25th street. What separates them is a Marriot Hotel and a little line of shops.

Even though I am mainly a counted cross-stitch enthusiast, I would love to have our group name as one or the other of these.

My spare bedroom in my house is going to become my craft room (or as the spousal unit calls it, the "craft room from Hell"). I can tell you that I am going to paint it to match my Mary Engelbreit "Rhapsody" switchplate (yellow, pink, white, a bit of green, a bit of black). Can't wait to see how it turns out! I got the paint at Ace Hardware; the name of the color I chose is "Smiley Face". Bright yellow and so unlike me! Hee hee hee!
I am jealous of anyone with a local needlework shop! We haven't had one in our town for many, many years; just Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Wal-Mart.
I do a lot of online needlework supply shopping. I like to shop at Down Sunshine Lane (www.downsunshinelane.com) and House of Stitches (www.houseofstitches.com). When I have a chance, I will sit down and try to compile some more favorite sites.
How convenient that the Marriot is right there to house us during a national Stitch for Freedom gathering! ;-)
I'm glad (as is my budget) that I pretty much kicked my kit addiction 15 years ago. Of course, it took buying a small flock of sheep with all of their attendant supplies, several looms and spinning wheels.
Well, hmmm, maybe I should regret that I kicked that habit.... At least, having an obsession that focuses on fiberwork before 1600 narrows down the yarn shop impulse buying. I can pass right buy the $40 eyelash yarn skeins. lol
There is a Fiber Fair in Ashville, NC next weekend that will be difficult on the pocket, but i'm down to a once or twice a year $$$ blowout anymore. And it's more apt to be roving or silk caps than finished yarn.
Now, my addiction to fiber tools and books, that's another story.... :-/
This is a delightful thread. It's rare to have a place to just talk about fiber stuff, online or in person. I am enjoying immensely hearing about everyone's interests, storage solutions and future plans. :-)

I love Shepherd's Bush. I was wondering if the design was from them because of the sideways witch. I went to SB last month, they had some new little kits. It is one thread over one thread stitching. A little frame is included (measuring about 1 1/4" by 1 1/4".) They included a length of velvet ribbon so it can be worn as a necklace. Too cute. I bought a Christmas kit, and now I am looking through my books to see if there are small patterns I can use to make these tiny ornaments.
We have a dearth of Needlework shops around here, too. :-(
There's an ACMoore 30 minutes away. I've been impressed with some of the natural fibers and good tools they're carrying.
For online shopping, I love Halcyonyarn.com. They're in Maine, have a great catalog. Actually, two catalogs, one for yarn and spinning fibers and one for tools.
My UPS driver is my favorite fiber mule. ;-)

Knitting, you haven't been to Shepherd's Bush? Go!!! So much fun. The last time I was there Teri Richards (one of the owners) picked out buttons and thread for my project. Oooh. Aaah. They have most of their designs framed and on the walls; there is any kind of fabric, they stock so many patterns. They also have a stitching retreat every other year. I am planning on going in 2006.
I love all the new fabrics and threads that are there for cross stitch. Silk is wonderful to stitch with (and expensive too.) The Stitchin Station in Murray sponsored a stitching class last Saturday on three designs by Indigo Rose. The pieces are in linen with silk threads. Beautiful to look at and to work with.
Next Friday and Saturday evening, they are also holding a knit-in and stitch-in for breast cancer. I'm going Friday evening and knitting scarfs. That will be fun.
We're really lucky here in Utah to have so many good shops for handwork hobbies. I really try to support the brick and mortar local businesses, but the Internet is a great resource also.

My wife quilts and has taken over the largest of our other bedrooms as the Needlework Center.

My wife does Needlepoint projects. Certain items each year or each grandchild. She is on a deadline for her most recent Grandaughter's Christmas stocking to go to the finisher and has redone certain areas four times to get them just right. She does it past midnight, riding in the car, while doing most anything.

Lastly, one year I almost shocked her to death. I worked it out that the week before Christmas, when we dropped into a store to browse and perhaps pickup some thread, there was a New Bernina Quilter's Edition machine waiting with her name on it.
She cross stiched the covers to all of our wedding invitations while completing a MBA in night school and selling a house. (I got her a tee shirt that said: "I want to be Martha, That B#tch can do anything) I guess you better put me on your ping list.
Hadn't noticed you on this thread and I know you will like it. See above for my story on the short version of my wife's dedication to this artistic pastime.
My wife and most quilters I have met would consider such a statement BLASPHEMEY!
Well if you can't join, you certainly are qualified to be President of the Auxilary! lol Your wife sounds like a very lucky lady indeed.
Some of us may need to get your email address for our husbands to get counseling about Proper Support of Needleworking Wives. :-)
