Good job; you've certainly silenced those naive freepers who think that Bill is on the side of the administration.

Thanks for the background.
What an "interesting" website. I'm sure they also monitor every mention of connections in the Time/Warner or the GE empires. /not

Thanks for reposting yesterday's essay. I don't know that much about Kristol, except he makes my skin crawl. You have enlightened me as to the facts.
And now, I'm off. I'll return around 9:00 tonite.

Thanks, Peach. Kristol sometimes backs the President, but only when Kristol is forced to do so by events. For example, Kristol long advocated the invasion of Iraq. When Bush went in, Kristol found himself in the position of having to support it.
Of course, it wasn't too long until he was griping about the war, and advocating Rumsfeld's resignation.
I would bet cash money that Kristol is behind much of the agitation in conservative circles right now.
It doesn't stretch my imagination at all to think that Kristol spend a lot of time e-mailing various think tanks and law schools, and then collecting all negative comments into something he could give to Newsweek, no doubt using Krauthammer.
I am going to find out about Krauthammer, too. I hadn't heard that he wrote for Mondale. If that is true, I am immediately suspicious. I happen to know that Kristol campaigned for Hubert Humphrey, but he was young and so I didn't necessarily consider that evidence of possible treachery.

Larry and I always referred to Bill Kristol as the POSSUM' because he looks and ACTS like one. In fact, whenever we saw a dead possum' on the road, we would say "Oops, a dead Bill Kristol"

I think that those of us who are in agreement about Kristol should email Brit Hume to let him know we're far from clueless out here. I don't know......Guess it would just make me feel better. This old goat DOES have feelings, ya' know. Ha.

Sometimes, I get so angry at FOX and their "fair and balanced" schtick. Fair = conservative approach and the liberal approach = UNbalanced.
I have been noticing that ALL liberals whine, grumble, carp, complain and are just downright unhappy 24/7!!

Well, Krauthammer has carried a lot of water for this administration, so I wouldn't go off on him unless it was solid, and I think Krauthammer would say he was against Bush if he were.
I don't like Kristol, either. But how do you explain David Frum and Bork coming out against Miers??? I don't think they have personal agendas against W....;-))
To: Bitwhacker
I really haven't been following this issue all that closely (the Yanks have kind of preoccupied my time ;-) ).
But as far as I can tell they are citing her qualifications, or lack thereof, and speculating on whether she'd make any attempts or strides to overturn ROE VS WADE.
I can't see how she alone can overturn RVW and as far as her qualifcations go, If Mark levine helped to vet Kennedy then found later he was less than honest, it's anyone's guess what she will do or be after confirmed.
I can't address Bork and Frum not knowing or paying attention to either.
I am quite frankly, sick of blowhards on both sides telling me what and how to think.

Although some of these nay sayers re Miers may have honest reservations, I suspect that underneath their public statements whether they are even aware of it themselves or not is an uneasiness that she's an OUTSIDER and thus since THEY don't know her, she and her abilities are suspect.
As for the charge of cronyism, where was their outrage when Pres. Kennedy appointed his brother as Attorney General? Where was their outrage when Pres. Clinton appointed the biggest bunch of misfits ever to be in his cabinet? Where was the Republican's outrage and NO votes when Pres. Clinton nominated Ruth Gingsberg, an avowed liberal and attorney for the ACLU?

Well, OK, then!
I like him, but I think Levine is a blowhard, too. ;-))
The only thing I'd like to point out, though, is that this is kinda like deja vu all over again. In Bush 41, he said, 'No new taxes' -- and then raised taxes. Bush 43 says 'I will nominate in the mold of Scalia and Thomas' -- and then nominates someone who cannot be measured at all.
It can't be all a personal vendetta, is all I am saying...;-))
To: Carolinamom
I agree on the lack of outrage from the GOP. Maybe someone can get Orrin Hatch, Bob Dole and Trent Lott to explain at length some time why they used to roll over and die on command. ;-))
But the central question is: Is Miers qualified to the standard that the President set (i.e. Scalia/Thomas)??? Who knows? We can't measure. I am not saying she can't do the job, but what I am saying is that there were a ton of people that were on the short lists who could be measured and who did have the experience, insider or otherwise. ;-))
Also, National Review, who has been behind this administration when it got things right, and who has no personal axe to grind, is also against Miers.
Sorry, I just can't believe this is ALL a personal smear campaign....;-))
To: bevlar
Oh that is not what I wanted to read on a Monday morning.
