Glad to have you here with us, and thanks for giving aid and comfort to our fellow FReepers!
Thanks for the encouragement Aeronaut-- nothing heroic though, just a simple decision and a follow through. And I've got ya'll as a net under me.
thank you sir!
Bears repeating!
Thanks! I'll file your comments about drinking only high quality liquor in a special place I have for just such things! :-) Keep up the good work at the antfarm-- I love your stuff and thanks for dropping by, I have no doubt that what you say is probably true. (but in my case I think the problem was with quantity more than quality.)
I need to work on that- Freepmail me if you have good advice on "keeping the weight off" that you'd care to share. I need to work on that as my next project!
thanks for the encouragement and the bump pollywog!
All good reasons to quit!
A fear of hangovers kept me from starting the drinking habit. That and what my uncle's drinking did to the family over the years. Throat and liver cancer were the results of my uncle's smoking and hard drinking. He was only in his mid-fiftes when he left this world.
I congratulate all who are fighting a dangerous habit and am glad to see personal insight being shared with those have yet to make that life-changing decision.
Close.. 21 on the 31st of this month.
I love hearing from folks like you. It reminds what living is for..
"I have occasionally had brief thoughts that I might be able to drink normally now that I have controlled myself for this length of time."
Hearty congratulations on your first 2 years of sobriety! That's a wonderful achievement. And may you celebrate many, many more consecutive years of "clean and sober" living. As you're already learning, it's a heck of a good way to go!
I thoroughly understand the comment you made above. It kind of burst my balloon when someone explained that thoughts like that are "classic examples of alcoholic thinking," but of course they were right.
We don't give up easily, do we? Ah well, now that you're on the sobriety side of life you'll hopefully 'hear it' when your mind starts to fib to you.
CONGRATS, one more time! Way to go, R from GA!
See this can be applied to other things too,
Clinton "tried" to catch Osama, his whineing and carrying on
about it only exposed his lack of will, some people "try" to quit smoking, and if all you do is "try" guess what, you haven't conquered your doubts and they remain your enemy because they are more powerful than YOU.
My mom had a heck of a time quitting smoking after thirty
or more years, I told her no backsliding and after a while
you will never think about it again.
She didn't think it was possible but persevered and now
SHE NEVER THINKS ABOUT IT.
Best of luck, keep up the good WORK.
Thanks for stopping by, send me a ping on your day!
thanks for your comments-- they are right on the money.
It all comes down to 6 letters-- D-E-C-I-D-E! At least that was my experience. Of course then you need to actually mean it and do it, but the decision was the hardest part.
As Yoda says: "There is no try. Only do." Or something like that.
Will Do.
I've always wanted to visit Idaho. I've heard it is beautiful. Thanks for stopping by!
And thanks to everyone who is out there who understands that people who have a problem with addictions need to see that there is life after they stop using. And that it can be a much better life.
Good night to all.
Rob
