NASHVILLE: Nashville star Chris Cagle revealed on his Web site he has learned he is not the biological father of his girlfriend's new baby.
The singer of "Anywhere But Here" and "Chicks Dig It" told the Nashville Tennessean in August that impending fatherhood had inspired him to quit drinking.
Cagle posted a statement Tuesday acknowledging the baby born during the weekend to Tammy Wheeler was not his.
"As many of you are aware, I had been anxiously awaiting the addition of a new baby to my life," the statement says. "The baby has been born and both mother and child are in good health. Since the birth, however, we have discovered that biologically, the child is not mine."
"As excited as I was about becoming a new father, my disappointment now is equally strong. Out of respect for all that are involved, please allow this situation to remain private and know that I will not be commenting further on this very personal matter."
It would have been the country star's first child

If they are the only choices, I rather not be born.

I just want to go on record as saying I'm not the father, either. Now, who is Chris Cagle and why should I care?

In many states, he would be still forced to financial take care of the child until 18 years of age. I believe that is true if he blindly signs the birth certificate forms, listing himself as the father. But it appears to me that he had "doubts" before the child was born, and had a paternity test done right after the birth.
I am just wonder why he publicly announce that the child is not his. Does he plan to dump this woman, and wanted to make sure that the gossip newspapers, can't use a Headline like, "Chris Cagle Abandons New Born"
To: fnord
I know. I may need to write another verse and create the perfect Country song.

A sad story. If the young man wants to be a father, maybe he should consider getting married to a woman who's likely to be faithful. Someone like me ... except it's too late for that ... but you know what I mean.

"the perfect Country song."
Maybe not David Allen Cole's but a version of Do You Want Fries With That from Pat Greene.

I have lived with a woman outside of wedlock but would never have started a family that way.
