If there is a way for a horse to get into trouble, they will do it. They don't even need anything in their stall to get hurt. They just find a way LOL. But God Bless horses!!!
and Texas:')
The darnedest one I ever heard was a friend of mine's gelding pony who was in his stall, which was back to back with the stall of her stallion. The wall between them was almost solid, but he managed to find a crack and stick his tongue through it (don't ask me why, horses don't need reasons). Well, the stallion apparently grabbed it and bit it off. I about died when she told me! She has a full time horse business, with lessons and training, and is home all the time but this apparently happened is some short amount of time that she was away from the barn. She came back and found him in his stall with blood all over but couldn't find any visible wounds. I don't know what made her think to look in his mouth but that's when she found that there was only about half a tongue in there and she found the other half in the stallion's stall. He healed up just fine and manages to eat ok but he can't manage hay, just pelleted food. Needless to say she patched up all the cracks in the walls between the stallions stall and all the others, but who would've thought that a horse would even THINK of sticking his tongue through a crack. I think they could hurt themselves in a padded stall!
