Good morning... I just got woken up by the dog barking at 4:30... who I think was hearing something out in the barn. I got up and opened the door to listen, and at first nothing, then a horrendous banging of a gate and a couple thuds.
Now... It could have been the pony doing her annoying banging on the gate, but it's early for that, and it sounded different. The thuds were new. So I go out there and flip on the light, and Bay and Cyn are staring at me, the pony is standing in the middle of her stall looking odd. She's shaking a little... and she's shaking her head a couple times a minute. She won't approach me.
I went in there and she's ~hot~. Hot under her blanket, hot at her neck. She's still shaking her head, and the bedding is disturbed by the gate and she has shavings all over her.
She ~can~ move around, but doesn't want to, and I fussed around her. I got the feeling she's cooling off. I spent several minutes trying to figure out if she's sick or what.
My best guess now is that she got herself cast against the wall with the gate on it and got stuck and the last commotion I heard was when she got herself unstuck. I think the head shaking was her recovering from whackin' her head.
I refilled her water and gave them all hay.... she hadn't started eating hers when I left, but she was standing by it.... still havent ruled out that she's colicky and that's why she rolled and got cast in the first place. Gonna go out in a minute here and check her again and see if she decided to eat.
at 5 in the morning...
Give us a report after it gets light and you can check her over good.
It does sound like she got cast, I hope she is okay.
