I wanted to share this picture... it's an old one, but a good one. This is my friend Bob with his mule Hoagie, after a trail ride. Hoagie would lie down anywhere when he was tired, and when they'd get back from a ride, Bob was in a race to get the saddle off. Many would see him laying down by the trailer, or wherever Bob put him, and they'd fuss and tell Bob to go check on him. Bob knew that Hoagie was fine, he just rested whenever and wherever he wanted. Hoagie is now retired at Bob's place, and Bob now rides a big appy gelding. But that mule is special, and their relationship is a special one.

Cool mule pic! I think it's really special when a horse or mule trusts you enough to let you get that close when they're laying down. They're at their most vulnerable at that moment and they're basically trusting you with their life. All the young ones that I've raised will let me get that close, but the older ones are more skeptical, unless they're sick.
