According to a report in the New York Times, several Yankees were not pleased that Showalter pulled three of his best hitters from Sunday's game with the Angels in the third inning.
If Los Angeles had lost that game, the best-of-five series would have opened at Yankee Stadium. But the Angels earned home-field advantage for the ALDS with the 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Jeter only had 2 at bats, Rodriguez only had 3, etc for the rest of the team. It doesn't look like the Yankees were running their starters all game either. The Yankees didn't need the Angels to lose to get home field advantage - they needed to win. They coasted instead and let the Angels have the advantage. Waaaaaah!
the Bronx crowd won't help the Yanks. The Angels have had their number for quite some time now. Bart game 1 - Lackey game 2 Santana game 3 = Angels in 4 ... IMHO
The way he's been pitching lately I don't think it would have mattered.
After last year's performance, I'd worry about them making it to the Series, if I were you.
HOORAY!
Finally!! I have something to cheer for involving the Rangers! Looooooooooooooooooooooong suffering fan, here.
They showed a hell of a lot more "chemistry" and character over the last two months than the Merry Men of Fenway or damn near anyone else in the majors. Stanton added chemistry?
Nobody mentions that the Yankees also "spent" around 37 million in luxury tax to MLB last year, which was parceled out to those "poor sisters". How many of those team owners put the money in their team? Or in their pocket? Say what you want about George [and you do], but he puts his money in his team. Don't like the product or the approach? Fine. But over 4 million ticket buyers did this year [New AL attendance record, first AL team to draw over 4 million]
Hey...I just posed an answer to why smaller market teams...might gripe about the N.Y. Yankees.
You seem a bit touchy....must be pre-playoff jitters...as this team ain't the Yanks of yesteryears...
Good Luck..!!
After last year, no Yankees fan can ever talk about blowing a huge lead.
Heehee...
Yeah, we can. We blew a playoff series to a great Red Sox team [a statement that has never been reciprocated when the spike was on the other foot]. But until the SOX make up a 14 1/2 to 15 game deficit from the All Star break on [you DO remember '78, don't you?], the American sign for the deaf for the Red Sox is choking oneself. If you can get over 78, I can get over 2004.
Oh my God, that's so freaken brilliant. Is it OK for me to steal it? I've taken to call New Englanders "The Red Sox Jhiad."
Feel free. My pleasure.
I usually refer to them as "RED SUX NOTION"

I don't think it will ever be possible for a team to fold like that now that Don Zimmer has retired.
