Spicy Mexican Beer Coming North Of The Border

Some brewers feel Americans may want their cold beer hot. Mexican companies are hoping Americans will start reaching for beers with a spicy kick.

A Mexican concoction called the michelada is heading north of the border. Brewers, distributors and a company peddling a pre-made mix are trying to cash in on the michelada -- beer served with lime juice, assorted sweet-and-sour spices, chili pepper, ice and a salted rim.

Many American tourists have developed a taste for michelada. Now, the importer of Corona and other Mexican beer brands is doing a michelada promotion with American bars and restaurants.

The drink has been a best seller south of the border for decades. An analyst who tracks the beverage market said micheladas have yet to catch on throughout the United States.

Still, some companies are hoping they can help it become more popular.

A Chicago-based company that imports Mexican made beers has launched michelada promotions with U.S. chains, including Marriott hotels and El Torito Mexican restaurant chain.

There's even a do-it-yourself version, the MicheMix, for those who want to try it at home.

Micheladas are GOOD!

Down here, they're essentially beer with salt and hot-wing sauce in it. Oh, man, do they rule.

I don't know.....sounds like a trap. When your mouth gets too hot what do you grab, more beer??? I'd be passed out in 20 minutes! (Not that that's a bad thing, but....) :-)

I don't know, I don't great memories with Mexican beers. My rule is, if you can see through the drink then it isn't beer. And like my teacher said, "Corona is like making love in a canoe,****ing close to water."

Years ago, I was at Crazy Ed's Satisfied Frog in Cave Creek, Arizona. They have a hot beer called "Cave Creek Chili Beer". It actually has a pepper in it. Wasn't my cup of tea.

Their slogan was NFL... No F#$%^%$ Lime.

It was actually a really nice place! My parents liked to take visitors there when they were in town. It's a small "town" like setting, with shops and whatnot.
