"Apple's "support" for older technology (such as OS 10.2.x)"

I have a 500Mhz DP G4 with 10.2.8 running on it. Apple is only releasing their Java 5.0 update for 10.4. I'm taking a CS class right now where using 5.0's implementation of priority queues would make life a whole lot easier.

But I don't want to shell out the money for 10.4 mostly because my system's too old for it.

Apple provides pretty poor support for their operating systems even a few years after they were released. As if you should just feel privileged to be part of their upgrade cycle.

I hate their computer, but Apple has a real winner with Itunes and the Ipods. The software is far superior to anyting on the market and the hardware is very good.

Oddly, Apple finally made something that works with PCs and they are making a big profit. Maybe they will learn this time.

HEY APPLE! MORE STANDARDER IS MORE BETTERER!

Kudos to the management.

Because you can enjoy the advantage of the Mac right now, not a year from now. With Apple's architecture, the PowerPC Macs will be well supported for years to come, well after your machine outlives its reasonable life.

That's an awfully big assumption for an architecture that's been officially deprecated. I wouldn't place bets on that.

Fair enough, truth be told I lust for a G5 Powerbook as well, but I'm taking baby steps here.

I hate their computer...

When was the last time you used a Macintosh? Used it, not just moved the mouse around on a store display model?

Uh... Every day? I use the one in my office. I have an XP machine, a Linux machine and a Mac.

In order, I prefer the XP machine first, the Linux box second and the Mac third. I don't like the Mac.

You should want to buy one because when Apple releases their dual-dual 970 MP, that thing will FLYYYY!

I was wondering why you'd have such a huge music library, but classical music explains that since it's such long-form. I doubt that the iPod is ever going to be seriously reworked for classical since pop is so much more popular, but then again, I don't think any of the other available music players would be any better.

Do you have problems with battery life because of the longer tunes not taking much advantage of the cache?

I have the free 9th and 5th Symphonies from the BBC but hate them because they start with talk that seems to go forever. Any ideas on the best way to get rid of it so I can just enjoy the music?

"Fair enough... what operating system is on your Mac?"

OSX. I don't like the interface. I don't like the way the windows open on the screen. The menues just aren't designed for me. For some reason, even though the screen is the same one I'm using on the other computers with a KVM switch, the Mac doesn't put as much work area on the screen. I always feel like I'm working on a 640x480 screen with tiny text and icons. The fonts are much harder to read too.

No matter how many adjustments I make, the mouse doesn't seem to feel right either.

I don't have that problem with the Linux box. It works well, but the software isn't as good as the XP stuff.
