I don't know what version of windows you are running, but you might try shutting down non essential tasks by hitting ctr-alt-del at the same time and then ending each unneeded task. Then try running adaware.

You can also search for "cws shreadder" on google and run that.

Right now I'm using the X-RayPC that decal suggested. I also used the Yahoo! Toolbar, which I had forgotten that I've got.

I think X-Ray says I've got a Trojan. I think I've heard that that's really bad before. Anyone familiar?

Whatever you've got, it sure sounds very nasty.

Good luck in getting your pc healthy.

If those links, which I never bother clicking on, are in fact leading to porn sites, it is very "NASTY" indeed.

Thanks, I've got more advice here than I anticipated.

You need do something about your FR homepage.

It is hard to believe spyware on his computer could mess up his home page on FR. He has this linked. 216.130.188.200 which is basically www3.bigtrafficnetwork.com Was that what he put in originally? Is that his site. Did he forget to pay his bill?

It is there. He needs to take those links down now. I clicked on them for the hell of it and I am lucky I have a crapload of security.

Actually, I didn't link in anything, I just typed text. I have no idea what happened, or how those links got there.

It is possible that I really am that clueless.

You need to get those links off your homepage before someone clicks on them and gets their browser hijacked. Your personal info links go to some bad places.

Go to your FR home page and click on edit info. Just backspace over them and they go bye bye.

What if I retype the word in? Will they come back?

Don't bother right now, just remove the links and worry about them when you have your problem solved.

Maybe you had this when you created your hompageon FR. And the links may have been put in then. Ask Jim Robinson if he would delete the links for you. At this time your changing things might make things worse. If you send JR a freepmail...Make sure you tell him not click on any links LOL

Good news, everyone!

The problem, much to my shock and astoundment, seems to be solved. I downloaded and ran X-RayPC, and did a spy-ware scan/removal from my Yahoo! toolbar, and the difference is astounding. Almost no pop-ups, and the 'net seems to be running 10X faster, like it used to. At least from a little browsing so far.

FR truly is a great place to be!!!!!!

You've been advised a dozen times already, but I'll just add my name to the list. You want:

Lavasoft Ad-Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Microsoft Antispy (XP only)
Hijack-This (for the really pernicious little bastards)
AVG Anti-virus

All this stuff is free, and perseverence with these tools will keep you very clean. If you have broadband, get a router with a hardware firewall.

Norton went ape batting those hijack attempts down. I ran CWs, Spybot Adware and Blaster to make sure everything is Kosher.
