Wasn't it just great when the kids sitting in the Amish buggy sang as their parents worked to overtake that group with 4 grown men! LOL That was brilliant! : )

The thing I liked ( past tense ) about TAR was that it seemed to be a competition based on merit.....for the most part ( excluding the dreaded airport time equalizer ) you were victorious or not based on what YOU did....not special favors. That seemed to diminish with more recent episodes ( with the reopening of the closed & sealed entry door to the plane that eliminated any advantage by Rob & Amber being the most noteworthy....but let's not forget the special treatmet to the "little person" Charla where locals hauled her backpack )and I've gotten increasingly frustrated. I don't want to see a team win simply because I happen to like them or the kids seem nice ( these kids are bratty - I don't care what anyone says but they're certainly not in the top tier of the "unlikeables" in this episode). If merit doesn't enter into it and special treatment is given to the teams with younger kids, what's the point??????

I think they should have included teams of sisters who have appeared in Playboy.

There certainly wasn't any special treatment when the mom and dad hauled the kids around on that buggy!

That was so cute...

I want the Weaver Family to win the most ;)

Both Mom and Dad Gaghan are marathon runners so they probably have more endurance than any of the other teams.

The task said all the family had to carry the wounded. I think as long as all 4 people were there, it counted. There were two shots of the Gaghans carrying the wounded. Mom and son were on the front and dad was on the rear with the daughter holding onto the side of the stretcher handle.

Technically, the daughter was there but the dad was doing most of the grunt work. I don't think there is a fix in.

I was hoping the Rogers or the Paolos would get eliminated...too bad they couldn't both have been taken out. If I was in the Paolos car i would tell everybody to let mom and/or the youngest son do the driving and the navigation and just sit back and watch the train wreck. Those two are so annoying with their back and forth "I told you so, you never listen to me" bickering. ugh!

Also, why does it seem like half the teams navigate like they have never touched a map in their life?

You would think they would brush up on map reading skills before the race! LOL It's pathetic!

I'd be ok if the Weaver's won. Once a few more families get eliminated, the fun will begin.

The dad gave the son the wrong directions. I think the dad is a jerk.

I like the Linz family, the Aiello family, and the Gaghans.

I think I like the Aiello Family the most. They seem the most respectful of each other, and they seem to appreciate the history they are seeing.

I like the Gaghans because the little kids seem to be polite and are having fun.

I really don't like the Paolo's. I think I don't like the dad the most because he never tells his sons to be respectful of their mother. The mother however is very annoying.

I didn;t see the gaghans carry more than one casualty if the battlefield, do you think they were given special treatment

Remember how quickly mom and dad Gaghan accomplished the buggy race? They're in topnotch shape and between the two of them, they could have easily handled carting a guy around on a stretcher. So, no, they didn't need special treatment. Actually, in real battlefield footage, you only see two men carrying stretchers.

Like you, I enjoy this family and hope they stay around. I LIKE smartass little kids, especially since they have good reason to sound like wiseguys. And they do it in a polite-enough way, too.

??? ALL the other teams that did this task ( including the sister & her 3 brothers ) were struggling & sweating, but the Gaghans barely broke a sweat .....

Mom and pop Gaghan are in topnotch shape, as you may recall from their sprinting around with the buggy last week while other teams faded. IRL, stretchers are carried by two men, not more. So two young, trained, toned, conditioned, buff people, male and/or female should have no problem. Their kids are conditioned athletes too, and the boy was able to help a lot. I think they are sort of a model family for family fitness and I hope they go far.

I have watched and enjoyed almost every season of TAR. With that said, they had better make this Family season more interesting and challenging soon, or this one is going to be a snoozer. This last episode was a boring map-reading and driving test. The Detour also lacked any excitement.

Here's hoping they get the action revved up soon.

This last episode was a boring map-reading and driving test.

Something tells me you'll see a lot of driving. I don't think they'll be flying anywhere. Next week is Florida, just down the I-95 corridor. All they'll have to do is hit I-95 and head south (inevitably 2 or 3 teams will not handle that based on last night's struggle with maps).

Anybody notice that this season all the team are from east of the Mississippi (well, depending on which part of Louisiana the Schroeders and Rogers are from)? Makes me think there will be at least one more "Family" season with families from west of the Mississippi who will tour all the western points of interest.

Once they do a Celebrity Amazing Race, I'll stop watching but not until then.

BTW: Did you notice the Gaghans are from Glastonbury, Connecticut? Laura Ingraham's home town?

Anybody with guts want to call in and ask her who she is rooting for? As if she watches the show...LOL!!

Definitely noticed. As you say, a Western family edition might be in the works. But I don't care. As you know, hattend, I was TAR's #1 fan from the start, but now I'm bored and ticked off that they've wrecked the show. I don't want to listen to families bickering nor to watch Interstate scenery, I want foreign travel to exotic destinations, bungie jumping off tall buildings, and airports--lots of airports.

The minute shows reach top ratings and establish a loyal fan base, the producers stick it to the fans by hiring crappy writers, cheapening the product, and generally throttling the goose that laid the golden egg. This TAR belongs in a Saturday afternoon time slot.

I think the dad is a jerk.

So do I. He certainly seems to have a high opinion of himself, though :)

I'm not real wild about this version either.

I feel like it should be cleaned up a bit, and put on Saturday morning.

I laughed at the little boy last night. He said his sister wasn't doing anything. The mom said she's trying. He then retorts "Well I want Larissa's job. :)

Yes, I noticed too. Remember last year they came to Birmingham and I really would have liked to try out, but my kids are way too young. :) I think they took yours, mine and Veto's idea about a race around the U.S. Do you suppose they read these threads? :)
