Good Sunday evening to you, fellow Freeper baseball fanatics. Great week just past, and an unreal last week to the season upon us..I wanted to get the thread up now, since I may not have a chance to do so tomorrow..The races are wilder, and tighter, than ever..
OMG, the Sox are approaching China Syndrome territory. If I took MY kids to this game on a schoolnight, I'd be mightily pissed.
And he wonders why he gets booed at Fenway
Yup, that's why hubby calls him Kevin "Hop, Skip and a Pop-Up" Millar...
What an absolute disaster this game is so far... Toronto killing the Red Sox 7-2
>:-(
OK, Manny walks... Varitek is SO overdue...
Bronson simply has no clue on how to effectively face lefties. His fastball sucks and his control was just awful tonight.
Indians must win this, IMHO.

Tampa Bay | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 0 | ||
Cleveland | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 |
Ugh. I hate Reed Johnson.
Millar never got it going this year, where he did last year. Possibly one of the main reasons the Sox are imploding (besides lousy pitching)?
Well, if I didn't hate him before, I hate him now! ;-)
Dinardo mowing them down. Gee, image if he'd have come into the game a little earlier?? Thanks, Tito.
Good grief... make that: and the Yankees just pulled ahead of the Orioles!
Poor pitching, poor defense and some club house cancers named Foulke, Payton and Manny. Belhorn was a disaster and Millar was mediocre with a big drop off in power.
The WC will likely come down to the Sox versus the Tribe and I have mixed feelings on it. My team is not good enough to go deep into the playoffs but the Tribe is.
I like Cleveland a lot and I see a great future for them.
Please understand....in this my dark night of the baseball soul, I'm talking about THIS YEAR.
Next year, Cleveland should be able to hold a 5-6 game lead on the Central all season long. They will be formidable.
Dittos to your post #134, misterrob.
I am a tried and true fan but I also have to call it like I see it. This is a tired team with no spark or belief in itself. If they don't score 7-8 runs a night it is very hard to win, starters have to go at least 7 for them to stay out of the bullpen and this team lacks make up power. Cleveland has the fire in the belly and a lot of enthusiasm. Their pen is infinitely better than ours and their impact guys are making it happen.
Tampa is schizo. They mail it in against the Wankees but play Cleveland and the Sox tough.
That's baseball I guess.
I wouldn't sell the Red Sox future short, either. The Sox have tons of young pitching talent (Papelbon, Delcarmen, Lester, Hansen, Sanchez, Dinardo, Alvarez) coming along.
Dump Millar and Damon, trade Foulke for some used rosin bags, and with the contracts on Manny and Schilling expiring soon, I trust Theo to fill in the holes.
It's not over yet, but it's looking pretty obvious (duh!) 2005 is just not our year.
Now the Sox need to sweep this weekend to avoid a game Monday...
I think we have a real good shot at being tied after tonight. Clement kept baserunners from scoring in his last outing and Downs has had 4 straight non-quality starts and Bedard has had two very good consecutive starts (against both Boston and NY) and Small hasn't pitched well in his last three starts (the mop-up game doesn't count).
I'm not saying we will be tied up, just that on paper, we should be.
