I walked in late...was that BJ "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" Thomas? Is he a Preacher now or something? I think I remember he was from Texas. In all honesty, I thought he had died. Anyone have any info???
I believe he is. If he is a Christian I sure hope he's stopped 'talkin to the Sun'.
BJ Thomas is the Dallas Stars' good luck charm, just like Kate Smith was for the Philadelphia Flyers back in the 70s.
I enjoyed your post, but I demand amnesty for some of mine that were moved to "personal and bloggers"
Except that the good luck charm failed miserably in Game 6 of the 2000 Stanley Cup finals. For this, there can be no forgiveness.
Yep that's true, I forgot about that one.
I'll be honest with you...I've been a member of FR for seven years now. I swear I don't know how to post anything except to the main board. I thought it was ok to put it as a personal question in the topic category. If I'm wrong, I apologize! I just was curious as to this BJ Thomas thing. He was the big thing when I was young and I was just surprised to see his name under these circumstances.
No problem with me. You seem to be in general/chat. I liked the use of "raindrops" in Spiderman 2. Sorry I took a jab at your posting.
used to listen to his gospel albums as a kid. great voice. good life story, fully of struggles and triumphs.
I had heard he's "Hooked on a Feelin'" and he "Just Can't help Believin'".
At least the folks at FoxNews have a sense of humor -- booking BJ "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head" Thomas during a hurricane.
Heh. I actually went to school with one of his daughters.
This has been your "Pointless Trivia About Starter" moment for the day.
I saw B.J. in concert back in the late '70s. He had just turned his life around, and said he kicked a $2000.00 a day drug habit. He put on a great show.
Not to sound cruel, but hockey in Texas, Florida or any other warm weather area of the US is simply wrong. The Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2004 Stanley Cup and their fans celebrated in shorts. Most people in Miami only know that ice is used only to keep drinks cold. That's why their arena is always empty! So the NHL, in its infinite wisdom, puts teams in Nashville, Phoenix, Anaheim, Tampa, Miami, and Atlanta. Peolpe in Atlanta hate hockey. That's why the Flames are in Calgary (remember Dan Bouchard and the Omni?) I'm fairly happy the Stars have succeeded in Dallas but more so for the sake of the NORTH Stars legacy - and I would submit that if the franchise flounders that arena will be empty, too. The NHL is a watered down product that only vaguely resembles the majestic game I grew up watching in the 70's and 80's. I'd truly like to see about 10 or 12 teams go the way of the Cleveland Barons and simply be minor league affiliates and re-energize the NHL game long-term, IMHO, of course.
