Good Monday morning, all you FReeper baseball fanatics....Two weeks left in the season, and just about everything is wide open...so let's begin...
1) Houston Astros -- never won it and I live there now.
2) Chicago White Sox -- Blacksox Curse and 1917. Time to end all baseball curses.
3) Cleveland Indians -- Team hasn't won since 1948. City hasn't won since 1964. Had to watch the Ravens win a SB soon after they left. They have suffered long enough.
4) St. Louis Cardinals -- Nice way to leave Busch Stadium.
5) Philadelphia Phillies -- Curse of William Penn. Another curse to get rid off.
After that, don't care.
The winner of the WS will be the team with the fewest ex-cubs.
It is a little known phenomenon that any baseball game will be won by the team with the least number of ex-cubs. If neither teams have any ex-cubs, it is a toss up.
Red Sox Nation: It is offically time to panic.
Ping Bodie or Duffy Lewis?
well we shall see...
My picks were for the Indians to win the Central, so I hope I am right...
The biggest problem the pale hose have now is their rotten attitude. They believe they're done. The best way to fall apart is to expect to fall apart.
George Halas....Papa bear himself..
Anything that gets Sierra out of the lineup helps the Yankees.
Anything that gets [Bernie] out of the lineup helps the Yankees.
Anything that gets [Womack] out of the lineup helps the Yankees.
Quantrill and Stanton have done quite well moving over to the NL.
As bad as the Yankees problems are this year..next year is gonna be worse..Steinbrenner will be manic..he wants one more championship before he hands off the team...that's what's driving him..and he'll be nuts until he gets it...Only way Cashman takes the job....he asks for and gets a 5 year contract at $2 mill per year..
Which is why the ChiSox can still be a tough draw even without an offense.
We'll find out soon enough! First of 2 big H2H series.
Short series can make or break a team, especially if the weaker team has a very strong starting 3 pitchers.

You are right. In a 5 game series you will probably see their top pitcher twice (unless you sweep in 3) and the #2 at least once, (twice if it goes 5).
There is talk about making all the playoff series 7 games just for that reason, revenue being an underlying reason.
Would love to see the Yankees and their $208 million payroll miss the playoffs. Wonder how Mr. Stienbrenner will feel when the Cleveland Indians and their $41 million payroll (1/5th of the Yankees payroll) beats them out for the wild card?
I'm studying my fingernails now and wondering when to start biting...
The red faced ones may take their division, leaving the BoSox as the east champs with the ChiSox the wild card and Steinbrenner as redfaced as the tribe. It could very well happen.
Yeah, no DH helps. Plus, pitching in the AL East is a problem for a lot of guys. The line ups chew up pitchers, they work counts and you have guys who can hit. Hell, even Tampa with a bad record can hurt you with their young guys.

They called up Hanly Ramirez and Craig Henson today...
Can't hurt I guess. Henson throws it 98 with a Brandon Lidge quality slider.
Hansen and Delcarmen can both come in handy if we have something like a runner on 3rd and 1 out and need a K.
