But doesn't current GM Theo Epstein get a lot of credit for last year?
Some great deals:
Nomar for Cabrera, etc.
Ortiz for a very low price
and many more
Well my team, the Cleveland Indians, have not won a World Series since 1948, and that is bad enough.
In fact the city of Cleveland has gone longer without a Champsionship, of cities with 3 sports teams, than any other. The last Championship winner was the NFL Cleveland Browns in 1964. 41 years is a long enough.
If they put Pete Rose into Cooperstwon,
If Pete gets in I will tear out my hair. He made a deal. He should stick by it. It would be a travesty if the deal were reneged on.
Congrats on clinching the division. C-Carp should get the Cy and Pujols is deserving of the MVP--it's shaping up to be a great year for Cards fans.
Good comments...
If you love drama then this is the best time of the year. The Indians are an enjoyable team to root for with their young talent and don't care attitude. If the Sox don't get in then I am riding Cleveland as my adopted team. They have good starting pitching, a great pen and bunch of hitters that can park the ball when needed.
The Sox have problems. Guys are wearing down, slumps, sloppy play and a starting pitching rotation that cannot figure out who or what they want to be. Clement is a head case and simply cannot keep his head in the game. He's either walking people or leaving the ball over the plate. I think that Tek calls too many pitches off the plate which extends his pitches per batter faced. Wakefield has been great at times but when that knuckleball don't dance, it becomes batting practice for the other team. Schilling is not back yet and that really hurts a team not having a #1 guy that they can turn to.
The Wankees are scoring runs and winning the close ones as of late. They are simply a scary offense. The starting pitching has actually been better than Boston's and they are simply hitting when the Sox cannot.
Oakland made it interesting when there was no way that they should have. Congrats to Billy Beane for retooling this team so quickly. They have some great young arms and a bullpen that is scary.
I pick the Cards to do it this year on the basis of the pitching staff. They will whack the Padres then outlast Houston or the Braves (another young team worth watching) and then beat the American League champs in 6.
Cashman is a great GM which any team should sign on if they have the opening. To manage in the Bornz Zoo is an exercise in patience, perserverance and skill. He has had to deal with Georgie boy doling out fat contracts for and/or trading for guys at the end of their careers. Kevin Brown was great up until 3 years ago. Musina is getting old and while RJ can still bring it he's 43 years old for crying out loud.

Avast, ye scurvy Chisox dogs! Prepare to be boarded!
Sounds like a pirates fan to me. Got your dialects mixed up a little?
The Pads taking the Cards? That would be a shocker!
Yes it would, and I don't expect it, but stranger things have happened. Short series can make or break a team, especially if the weaker team has a very strong starting 3 pitchers.
I'm pulling for the Tribe in the AL. I grew up in Cleveland and would like to see them do well. I'd very much like for them to win the pennant.
But I'm rooting for the 'Stros in the NL. If the Indians and the 'Stros meet in the series, I would have to go for Houston. But I don't want to get ahead of myself. Both teams have to get into the playoffs first, and then they'll face some tough competition. The Astros will have to get past the Cards somehow and that is a tall order. We shall see.
and also the Braves...
Watch out for CLE!!!!
Does anyone else think that the Indians are going to catch the White Sux and then Chicago will miss the playoffs altogether?
I, for one, can't see that happening..Pale Hose are in..and actually may be more dangerous as WC...
I vote for 'Bang the Drum Slowly'
Take a number on that one, just came on last night again... have to get the fans in the mood.
