To set the record straight...I was never, NEVER a Yankees fan..I loved NL baseball, especially the Dodgers, and loved the Sox...Ted Williams was the greatest hitter I ever saw, bar none..when the Metsies were formed, I needed a local team to root for.....and continued to root for the Red Sox and the Mets...I mean, what were the odds that my two teams could ever meet i the WS, right? You have NO idea the angst I felt during the 86 series..

If there is a MUST game for Schilling this year..it is tonight...and he can't give up 5 runs...

I've got AL and NL teams, too. The Red Sox are my AL team, and Cincinnati Reds are my NL team. I wasn't even born when the 1975 WS happened, so I obviously didn't go through what you went through in 1986, but if it were to happen again, I would have to hope for another dramatic, 7-game WS, except with the Red Sox winning instead of the Big Red Machine.

However, the only time that I rooted against the Red Sox - June 13, 2005, when they played the Reds. I wanted to see the Red Sox take two out of three, but instead they swept the Reds. I guess in the end it's a good thing; had the Reds won that game, the Red Sox would be .5 games behind the Yankees instead of .5 games ahead.

Then you have my most sincere congratulations on last year's victory. My own brother is a life-long Sox fan and we have never had an unpleasant word between us in that regard.

OTOH my boyfriend and the rest of my ABY friends have made my baseball viewing season very unpleasant up until the last few days.

LOL! I watched the '86 series in a bar full of Mets and Sox fans. My other Yankee fan friend and I took the 12 to 5 odds on the Sox and had not our hearts, but our wallets broken!

I can understand former Bums and Sox fans hating the Yanks, but Yankee hatred by too many young fans (especially Mets fans) reminds me of foreign hate and loathing of America...too rich, too successful, too arrogant, etc.

Lisa.. I don't hate the Yankees..I grew up 3 miles from the Stadium...and went to many games as a wee lad. I do detest Yankee fans.....they are insufferable..think it is their God-given right to win the WS every year, and have an All-Star at every position, and 2 or 3 Cy Young winners in the rotation...and Steinbrenner is a liar, and a boor, and a boob..

I have no problem with Yanqui fans who have some connection to NY. My real problem is "fans" who are front runners. Same as all of the Cowboy's fans who have never even stepped foot in Tx.

Liar, boob and boor he may be, but fans of all teams should have an owner like him that wants to win and spends what he has to to do it.

After he got involved with the Nets they went almost immediately from a laughing-stock to a contender.

There are owners that have much, much more money than he has, but he spends his on his organization.

Yanks up four to nothing. A good start. Let the final two weeks be entertaining and may the best teams win.
