"Bush is an unpopular President, and primetime speeches do not help unpopular Presidents."
Really?
Unpopular to whom?
Liberals like you?
Why should the winning candidate pander to the political leanings of the LOSING party just to be called 'popular' by the LOSING party?
I wasn't polled, but I agree with that group of folks that Dean Reynolds interviewed for ABC in Houston immediately after the speech. I thought the president and the speech were WONDERFUL!

Sorry about the double post, although I do think it bears repeating! ;-)
S'ok. I figured that you just hit "reply" to the wrong post. It happens. :-)
I simply dont believe it. (the polls claiming people feel worst due to President Bush's speech)
GWB's speech was exactly what the country needed to hear.
REgardless of how much the govt. ends up spending, GWB's speech gave the people of the Gulf region many reasons to be optimistic.
In my view, Republican naysayers have gotten nearly as bad as Democratic Bush haters.
After all, what is the federal government to do in the wake of Katrina? Tell the people of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisana they'll have to "tough it out and do without" because us taxpayers are too burdened to spend another one half of one percent of our federal budget on helping these people rebuild their broken lives.
I think not. GWB is doing what any President with a heart would do. And if he can do a little political triangulation while he's at it, more power to him and the GOP.
Bottom line: I see this as an excellent opportunity to break the Democratic stranglehold on the black voters not only in the south, but in the Northeast and West.
bttt.
It's not the President's job to get people to like him, it's his job to solve problems to the best of his ability, within the constraints of his power.
And no war is ever "popular." Again, if the nation has to go to war, it is the President's job to explain why. People don't like losing young Americans, but they will support a war if it is the best long-term interests of the nation.
The Pre$sident'$ $peech wa$ terrible. He de$erve$ an F for giving away future generation$ money. How generou$ i$ that?
Thanks!
You're new, and a liar. How nice.
IBTZ?
LOL! Me too. It was a wonderful speech. :)
And sooo, I say that this Newest New Deal is not like that older new one, because there the money was funneled into the TVA, and that one was well above sea-level while this one is not and it's sinking every year, but aside from those similariites, it is with heavy eyelids - err, heart that I say...$PEND MONEY!
Polls are not news. And trolls are not smart.
I don't know how many times the naysayers have to be proven wrong before they finally "get it".
I don't know how many hundreds of billions of dollars the federal government needs to waste before some people "get it", er..., at least the bill for it.
