President Bush Response to Hurricane Katrina

Excellent 17% Good 18% Fair 23% Poor 41%

September 18, 2005--Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That's down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that 41% give the President poor marks for handling the crisis, that's up 37% before the speech....

Following the speech, the President's rating for handling the Katrina crisis fell eight points among Republicans (from 71% good or excellent to 63%). The President also draws good or excellent marks from 11% of Democrats and 31% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of black voters support the federal reconstruction spending while just 17% are opposed. Among white voters, 49% favor the spending and 29% are opposed. This is the first Bush Administration proposal hat has attracted more support from black Americans than from white Americans.

I love it. Wished it had dropped by 20pts so that those seeking re-election next year were forced to distance themselves ASAP from this proposed federal boondoggle.

Maybe it was because his shirt did not appeared to be buttoned properly. At least that appeared to be the main focus of the lib analysis of the speech.

What's it like to be in the permanent minority?

About right cause the rats think he can't do anything right and the conservatives think he is selling them out and that leaves on the republicans liking him.

By the way, most of the drop was due to Republicans because of the massive cost and fear of misuse of funds. His "poor" rating did not change. There were shifts among "excellent", "good" and "fair".

Clinton was once at 37% in the polls.

BTW, in 1992 57% voted against the man who raped Juanita Broaddrick and in 1996 51% voted against the man who raped Juanita Broaddrick.

Personally, I don't like Presidents or wars that are "popular." They really suck.

"However his general approval rating is 47% which is about what its been for the last while. Very strange."

His Katrina ratings dropped due the cost concerns by Republicans. It was a spending issue, not a initial handling of the crisis. So repubs are still ok with Bush over, but $200B+ on Katrina has a few people scared.

Bush is an unpopular President, and primetime speeches do not help unpopular Presidents.

At this point Bush could cure cancer and solve world hunger, and the 40% of Americans who are Democrats would still hate him. The independent vote is just going along with the anti-Bush media for the moment. The Republican base is still generally behind Bush, but that Hurricane Katrina speech just alienates the fiscal conservatives among them.

For many conservative Republicans, Bush is a lost cause. Not fiscally conservative, not fighting to win in Iraq, not doing much of anything about immigration, and refusing to defend himself and the party in the face of an anti-Republican MSM onslaught.

I stand behind Bush because I've nowhere else to go - I hate the leftist media and the liberal/socialist Democratic Party far more.

Sad that we've reached this point.

Well, when the public is in a mood to blame the President, then no speech he makes will help. Conversely, when the public is happy with the way things are, then even committing perjury and obstruction of justice won't hurt his poll numbers. But in either case, the governing factor is the public moood, not the relevant facts. Te learn more, check out socionomics.
