my thoughts too. This would be out already on some blog somewhere. Google turns up nothing over the last few days anywhere on the internet. But..stranger things have happened.

Probably a lucky shot with a bottle rocket.

the airport would have been shut down instantly, for a significant period of time. did this happen? I don't think so, I saw no news reports of extensive delays at JFK.

I usually fly AW into and out of Newark. Hard to imagine that the airline that actually tries to charge you $5 for a crappy sanwitch that they used to give for 'free' to passengers has pilots and hardware that could outmaneuver a SAM.

I'm with ya this is fishy. Think there is possibly something in the patriot act that enables homeland security to put a gag order on the media?

the word would get out, closing all flight traffic into JFK airport for hours - it could not be covered up.

AW flies a lot out of Newark, also. While a NJ airport, it pretty much serves nyc also.

Hey, all I know is today I scored another one for the team when I wouldn't let a Jerk in a Jetta merge in front of me because he had a John Kerry bumper sticker. :)

No, but it is no secret that if a piece of information is controllable - i.e. not many people or members of the media know about it - the feds are able to manage the release. Occasionally, members of the Washington press are asked to hold stories for a day or two, and the reward is that they'll be given the scoop on another story at some later date.
