Gamer, huh?
I use my G5 to modify graphics, and video, using Apple's Final Cut Pro. It works, and it works much in the same way that a lot of the programs on my first, FatMac (c.1984) worked. They furnished Macpaint, and MacDraw (along with MacWrite, etc) with the 'puter.
Using a mouse, and a GUI, in 1984, was a new thing, and made access so much easier than trying to remember c> stuff. I never learned it. I didn't need to. I did learn the keyboard shortcuts, and use most of them to this day.
I was taught about computers in the Navy. I first used them in the late 60's. I'll keep my Macs. I am contented to sit down, use it for it's intended purpose (an appliance), and go watch my tv, for entertainment...
Yes I am a Gamer, does that make me like a heroin addict or something? I can also do anything that you can do on a computer, albeit using different software.
My mentor during my sound engineering days also learned electronics in the Navy (repairing radar I think). He taught me alot, started me in my understanding of electronic circuits. Pushed me along until I took up the study myself. I went from transistors to op amps, then to digital circuits. I could take an amplifier to him that wasn't working, and just by having it on his workbench he could scare it back into working. He also taught me my first carpentry skills by teaching me to build my own PA cabinets. A skill I use today to build and repair houses. So I thank you for your service and your knowledge.
In the near future we will all be using the nearly the same hardware. I submit that arguing over an OS is silly, and a much better way to come together around here is to talk about what we will have in common, which will be hardware. I'm really not such a bad guy.
