These boys are also on a Disney show called The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, which my daughter loves.

I find it amazing to see how much success those two girls have had in their lives. They really knew how to capitalize on their fame well. I am betting that this new business venture is another hit for them, based on the popularity of these two young men.

I better get ready now, as I imagine there will soon be dozens of lame movies featuring them that my daughter will just 'have to have'.

But, you see, the teenage girls will buy all this stuff to watch the twin boys. And it may end up shaping the way teen boys want to look.

My daughter has a huge inventory of MK&A videos and books. She grew up with them. I didn't much appreciate the shift in their movies when they became teens, however, and they lost me. Imagine them becoming owners of their dynasty at age 18?

If it'll stop the "SAGGY-BAGGY ELE-PANTS" craze, I'm all for it! Maybe these two boys will start a trend in fashion that has young mens dressing like sensible human beings again. When I see some young man in the malls walking 'round holding his pants up with one hand and talking on a cell phone with the other, I want to walk up to him and say something that would probably get me arrested...........

This ploy will flop after a movie or two.

And while the Olsen twins' parents were able to milk their kids for profits for years, they have ruined their daughter's careers.

The two of them are simply horrible, talentless actresses. 10 year old girls with little discernment can enjoy a movie starring two 10 year old girls who can't act, but 20-something moviegoers (1) will have no tolerance for truly terrible acting when there are plenty of hot young starlets who actually have some chops and (2) will have no tolerance with a series of hokey plots that center on "identical twin sisters who have very different personalities".

They grew up in a hothouse acting in projects tailormade for them, and as a result they never had to do what other young actresses have had to do - work for a director (instead of having a director Daddy hired work for them), fight for parts by relentlessly honing their skills, play maladjusted or evil characters, etc.

They have no emotional depth, no range, their shtick is old and they have nowhere to go.

And despite the constant stories about how big their media empire is, I guarantee that Dakota Fanning already has more money in the bank than they do and she is just beginning a long and brilliant career.

It's the same transition that child actors like Judy Garland and Shirley Temple had to make as they approached adulthood. I still can't get used to the Olsens in makeup.

I understand what you are saying, but they are literally billionaires. Dakota doesnt have that much yet!

I am not sure they care if they ever act again. They are really into the business side of their merchandising empire.

Imagine them becoming owners of their dynasty at age 18?

(1) Their "dynasty" is about over now. New York Minute which was supposed to be their big, breakout movie was a complete and utter flop - it cost 30M to make and probably another 10M to promote and made only 14M at the box office.

They are no longer a hot property in the tween market (they've been replaced with younger, trendier stars), their well-publicized drug and eating disorder problems have ruined their wholesome image, and adult moviegoers see them as a bad joke.

(2) Their business empire consisted mostly of sales of their videos and themed clothing, toys and accessories.

The margins on all that stuff is razor-thin - so when reports say that they had a "billion dollar business", a margin of 5% on that business is about $50M in profit.

Their parents took a pretty hefty management fee out of that throughout that time and continue to take consulting fees, so I'll guess that they have about $25M between them - or slightly more than Brad Pitt's pay for a single film.

(3) Their clothing line, back catalogue of videos and other tchotchkes are no longer big selling items and will continue to decline in profitability. At age 18 they've taken possession of a house of cards.

It's all downhill from here.

I also hope that teens and young women will step away from the Paris Hilton look and move more towards a balance between Mary Kate and Ashley, two very different fashion statements.

See post 10. They're not actually billionaires, or even close to billionaires.

If they were, they would show up on Forbes' list of billionaires.

But the twins are moving away from film after their disastrous New York movie, aren't they? Because you're right; they can't act. Now it's just about keeping that money machine working overtime by going down different revenue driving avenues.

I would love to see young girls and women wear dresses and skirts again. Tank-tops, spagetti-strings, and low-riders are disgusting.............

I'd argue that the "money machine" has been losing steam for years now and that their hiring of these boys is an attempt to keep their heads above water - i.e. they realize that the "Olsen Twins" is now a valueless brand and that they should go with what they know and market a new set of twins.

That might just work twice - but it shows that they are already out of ideas.

well, they do seem to have a keen eye for seeing what the kids are going to be into. Even if they never have to act again, I bet their business continues to do well. I predict this new deal with the boys will do very well. But we'll see

their Mary Kate and Ashley line of clothes sells very well at Wal-Mart. A lot of their stuff is actually very conservative, so my daughter likes it and so do we, and we can actually send her out without her being dressed like a little Britney Spears.

I'm not sure how much of that savvy was theirs, or their manager dad's.

We certainly will. But I think the "identical twins with very different personalities" shtick has been done to death and that these boys will do OK, but nowhere near as well as the Olsens in their mid-90s heyday.

My kids are still in the Dora the Explorer phase, so I don't know the boys. Can they act better than the Olsens, sing, etc.?

I'm sure they do. I'm equally sure that Wal-Mart pockets 99.5% of the profit from that line - otherwise they wouldn't distribute it.

A lot of their stuff is actually very conservative, so my daughter likes it and so do we, and we can actually send her out without her being dressed like a little Britney Spears.

I agree that having tasteful clothing for young girls is pretty important - one of my daughters is almost 3 and they already sell bellyshirts for children that age. It's absolutely disgusting.
