Very well said. The Terri Schiavo case brought out the worst accusations and innuendo. Some of the people who were suspended then are back in action now.

Can't you folks resist throwing around the PC thing? Get a life. I asked a specific question. Who would you people like to ban? How would that make it any different than the university speech codes?
To: armymarinemom
Yes, armymarinemom, it is sickening. That's exactly how I feel... sick. :/

You and I both know this place is loaded with Holier Than Thou race baiting "real true" conservatives who spend their time telling us just how wrong we are about everything just to make their little Grinch hearts feel relevant.
They're the ugly face of conservatism.

Well I read that thread. I agree that there has been a big jump in racist posts. It coincides with illegal immigration becoming a top topic on FR the last several monthsBut let's be clear on this point: it's possile to care about securing our borders without being a racist.
Sadly, the race card is cheerfully played by BOTH sides on this board.

I'm a faculty member of FR and I know utter tripe when I see it and your remark
Recent events have brought to light some harsh truths. If some people can't stomcach it, then that is their problem.
is as pious a statement as I've seen on FR in a long time.
Whatever truths may come to light, they certainly are NOT going to be devulged by the likes of you.
What I can't stomach is racist. If I struck a nerve, so be it.

You didn't ask any specific question. Your post sounded quite rhetorical, esp. with that 'harsh truths' comment at the end. Maybe you weren't around to see what some folks version of 'harsh truths' were. Also, before commenting maybe you ought to read the thread that prompted the departure of Mike and Rod in the first place.

What I can't stomach is racist. If I struck a nerve, so be it. What do you define as a racist?
To: Howlin
Sure. Sooner or later somebody would ask. Most of us wouldn't be missed like those two guys though; they were both thoughtful and able to express what a lot of us think much better than we can
Actually, after 5 years of being on FR, it's only recently that I started paying a whole lot of attention to who was doing the posting.
I just assumed everybody else was the same way.
I remember seeing these particular two around some. I couldn't tell you anything they ever said, but the always seemed pretty nice.
It is a bummer that any good people get chased off of FR. There does seem to be a hint of fanaticism running around these days.

People who throw around statements like you posted on this thread tonight, with such determination that you MUST be right.

FR isn't the same. Hasn't been since the Terri Schiavo situation imho.

Who was it that said "I know one when I see one"?
To: Wormwood
Between the border, Schiavo, and Katrina, we're becoming Whack Central.

But let's be clear on this point: it's possile to care about securing our borders without being a racist It is also possible to see another side to the Katrina aftermath and not be racist. We (taxpayers) are about to spend 200 billion bucks on relief. At least 25% of that money is going to be spent on re-building NO and it will still be below sea level. There needs to be some very hard questions asked and if they are not then we are just going to have to do it all over again at some future date.
