Which coach was it who said something to the effect "We'll stop trying if they promise not to score any more runs." ?
The Yanks have the ability to score 10 runs in an inning, so to assume you have the game wrapped up with a 7 run lead is ridiculous. Score at every possible opportunity.

some coaches (not Torre or Francona though), would put the next pitch upside the batters head for that.
That is what Kapler is talking about.

to assume you have the game wrapped up with a 7 run lead is ridiculous If it had been fifth inning, I would agree. If it had been 17-10 in the seventh inning, I would agree. But it was 9-2 in the ninth inning. Kapler is right to apologize.
