The Sox got rid of Rodger the Rocket because he was too old, he won over 20 games the next season!
But, I was so happy to see them beat the much hated Yankees.
I was mad as hell when they got rid of Roger, but here in Oklahoma there wasn't much I could do.
Roger left because someone else was willing to pay him more money up in Toronto. Secondly, the GM at the time gave him grief for showing up fat and out of shape in 1995 after the strike ended. Prima donna that he was he pouted and sulked about it.
He was one of the best of all time and it was a shame the way it ended in Boston.
Oh well....
He was out of shape and there is no evidence that he would have gotten into shape had he not left.
Roger was fat and wasn't trying. He decided to get in shape when the Sox cut him loose though -- finally had motivation.
