Yes, so have I.
People tend to get really testy about it - I think they take it as a rejection of them personally.
I think it's extremely rude to add someone to a ping list without their consent.

I've never had anyone ask to be removed from the one ping list I maintain.
I think that's because I don't ping them several times daily,
and only ping them to threads actually about the lists stated specific interest.
