Never attribute to Malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. I'll have to second that. While I can be as tin-foil hat wearing as the next guy, it is hard to believe that the Dem leadership could be that evil.

it is hard to believe that the Dem leadership could be that evil. The same thing was said about Hitler and the Nazis, wasn't it, in the beginning. Before the evil had run its course and the extent of it was finally revealed.
Rule of thumb: NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE ENEMY. It can be, and is often, fatal.
