CNN is the flat-out best on breaking news. They have good infrastructure and contacts, and unlike Fox, they will usually not "jump the gun" without checking just to be first with the story. (In the same vein, any "breaking news" story on Fox should be cross-checked against CNN for accuracy.)

OTOH, CNN absolutely sucks for analysis -- very partisan and agenda-driven, and extremely one-sided.

I will never rely on FOX again for breaking news after they reported Pope John Paul II was dead a good 24 hours before he actually died. I was already in tears over his death when I found out it was a false alarm. Very unprofessional and disrespectful behavior on the part of FOX.
