Good morning, all you FReeper baseball fans. Trust everyone is having a pleasant Labor Day weekend. To those of you impacted by Katrina, our thoughts and prayers go out to you. But baseball is the ultimate escape, so let us turn our thoughts to the last month of the season, and the week that was..
Fred Lynn looks great..ESPN just had him on-air, with Luis Tiant. Can anyone find the box score from Lynn's rookie game against the Yankees, at the Stadium..I was there.. I saw it..I think he had 9 or 10 RBIs... two homers..
Lynn's first game against the Yanks was his only game and it was in Shea and was on September 25, 1974. He went 1-3 with 2 BBs. His first full year, he played against the Yanks at Shea on 4/15 and 4/16. He went 1-4 with a 2B on the 15th and went 3-4 with 2 HR, but only 2 RBI (both homers were solo shots) and scored 3 times on the 16th-- probably the game you saw.
LOL... how are you managing that? Are you getting the Red Sox game on ESPN where you are? We have the Sox here on NESN of course. ESPN has FLA vs WSH, ESPN2 has the Mets vs Atlanta. They're running Angels vs Red Sox in your area? (as you know, I'm constantly confounded by TV sports schedules)
- R. Sierra fouled out to first
- M. Lawton hit by pitch
- J. Posada singled to left, M. Lawton to second
- R. Cano walked, M. Lawton to third, J. Posada to second
- T. Harper relieved T. Miller
- D. Jeter grounded into double play second to shortstop to first, R. Cano out at second- End of Inning (0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 Errors)
It's crazy how much trouble they give the Yanks.
Sox lead Angels 6-3, 2 outs in the 9th (Wed. Sep 7)
AARGH! Yanks just took a 5-4 lead over TB; was hoping Sox
could extend lead to 5 games. Bottom of 8th--come on Tampa
Bay!!
Blood test Giambi now. MLB, your PED policy is joke.

5-4 Yanks...
C'mon Tampa Bay...
Sox magic number 21?
Sox 82-56 with this win tonite
If Yanks win: 78-60, 4 games back
24 games left, 4 game lead = 20
add 1= 21 (I think that's how they do it)
The Yankees have Rivera on the mound in the 9th. He's automatic, you know.
found online:
"Magic Numbers
Determine the number of games yet to be played, add one, then subtract the number of games ahead in the loss column of the standings from the closest opponent. If Houston has 50 games remaining (50+1=51) and are 7 games up on Cincinnati in the loss column (51-7=44), then the Astros' magic number to clinch the NL Central is 44."
So, 24 + 1= 25
minus 4 (back in loss column)
= 21
yanks win, drat
Grrr... damn Yankees! :-(
it's 20.
24 games left. Sox go 12/12 Yankees have to go 17-7 to win.

my bad...21. 20 is to tie, 21 to clinch
