Thanks for this thread, I was going to start my own.

(from another thread I posted on...)I know there must be many freepers who are into various aspects of "survivalism", so I'd like to ask about any books, videos, and authors that other here have read, seen, and trusted. I can think of two "forms" of survivalism and I would like to become better aquainted to both. First is the "stock up at home and hold out until help comes". Food, water, energy, topics like that. Then there is the outdoor type survivalism, where you could find yourself with a very limited set of tools on hand, and you have to keep yourself alive by finding, hunting and perhaps even growing your own food. It seems the folks in NO lost much of what they might have reserved for emergencies, so I think knowledge of the latter is very important. How bout it freepers, anyone know about this stuff?

I have one too.

Duel pistol grips. Faster, shorter and lighter.

Bookmarked.

Some of my favorite FReepers on this thread.

I have pinged a few others.

Mine locks up because it's old and has been thrown.

The first seven rounds are usually OK though.

It looks like communications are very vulnerable, with radio being the only reliable means. FRS and GMRS are too limited in range for my purposes, I was thinking of going with a transeiver, something like a 2meter handheld plus external antenna. Anyone have any experience in this matter?

The tabasco company homepage says production of tobasco is not affected by the hurricane, although most of their website is...so we are safe for doctoring up food...;-)

I read a while back that Benelli puts out an above average shotgun that is designed for heavy wear and tear in corrosive environments such as what we are seeing now...Lots of stainless steel in the housing etc etc...

I forget the name, but it was what they referred to as a "maritime model" (or something like that)...Its a 12 ga. as well, and can handle the magnum loads...Its a pump action too...

I'll probably find the link to this thing before I know it...echhh...

But this is something I would look for in a shotgun for these purposes...

Notice how the Red Cross leaves out firearms of any type.

tsmith130: a person after my own heart. I love this subject and prepared heavily before Y2K.

I will come back to this topic, but I hope we keep it going. Thanks to anonymoussierra for the links to the discussion boards. I knew F.R. would have something on this so I can get back in the groove of preparing.

Wish I could afford an older pop-up tent. That would be the best.

Browsing the web I found this mask on http://www.survival-supply.com. Looks very interesting. They claim mask can protect from smoke and bio agents.
