When the cop tries to ask you question at that point (and if he is any good he will) Responded with something to the effect of "Your kinfolk who is a lawyer owes you a bunch of money and you're going to call him", don't answer any questions. Regarding the legal questions about shooting another person...

read and know your local laws on firearms and use of deadly force. Laws vary from state to state--in some cases, from municipality to municipality. The problem doesn't necessarily end when you've killed the bad guy. If you've screwed up by violating the law, your problems may have just started.
