A shotgun loaded with buck shot....preferable a riot model pump...can put mor projectiles downrange in a shorter period of time than any other weapon. That is according to my SWAT trained adult son, who uses one of those for his own self defense weapon.

Right kind of gun, but use squirrel shot. Hit will hit more of a mob at once and make them think about their actions.

But even a 12 gage 3" mag. No. 6 load has twice the momentum of a .44 mag. pistol round. If you are an apartment dweller with concerns about where the next door neighbors may be standing when you open fire it may be a better choice.

I have a Stoeger double and an 870 pump. The Stoeger is loaded with No. 6, the Remmington has 00. I figure if I miss with the little one I'll at least distract any uninvited visitors long enough to grab the 870.
