Shortly thereafter, Bally's sought -- and received -- a tax break that was worth about $1.2 million a year from its landlord, the Orleans Levee Board. The deal was brokered by Levee Board President James Huey, a close ally of Sen. Heitmeier's.

Yep! Heads will roll on the Levee Board! The New Orleans Mayor already thinks the CIA is out to assassinate him!

Dead right. Jim Rogers said that over the last 10 years, the Levee Board has:
1) Bought a casino
2) Bought a private marina
3) Bought a private plane
4) Invested several 100 million with friends

I jotted it down I was so stunned.

See the Blame Game video, about halfway through, for the direct quote.

Well, now we can see why Congress "failed" to appropriate mo' money to these corrupt thieves.

The Feds can only appropriate funds to get things done. When the bozos at state level then pi$$ it all away, the press and the public have no business pointing fingers at the federal level.

Kathleen Babineaux Blanco

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1476451/posts

Before serving in the state’s top office, Governor Blanco completed two terms as Lieutenant Governor. As the state’s second-highest official, she supervised the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. Under her leadership, tourism in Louisiana increased by 41 percent. This growth led to a $2.5 billion increase in the tourism industry’s economic contribution to the state and the creation of 121,000 new tourism-related jobs.

Is THIS where the $$$ went?No wonder she didn't want the Federal gov. to step in.

Note also that maintenance and improvements of these levees is NOT the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineeers. The Corps has responsibility for the levees on the Mississippi River and Lake Ponchartrain, and while water brielfy overflowed the Lake levee during Katrina, the rupture of the locally-managed canal levees is what caused the flood.

Ahhhh, the light is dawning. Everyone knows that when the investigations start the corruption in that State is going to float to the surface like oil on water. They're trying to sling mud to distract the public from discussing that.

I sent Senator Landrieu a note with this little tidbit of info. I told her I understood she thinks all the blame is the President cutting funding... said good thing he did or I fear the levee board would have just spent it on more personal expenditures as in the past and then gave these stats.

I think everyone else should follow suit... let her know if she wants to throw mud we're there to smear it where it belongs.

very interesting.....I certainly have not heard this on the old media.

The first time I saw the governor on TV, I thought that she had the demeanor of someone who was obviously distraut, not only by what was happening now, but by what she knew should have happened in the past and did not.

Where did you see this? The Corp of Engr had a map of the levees I looked at the other day and I thought it included the 17th street floodwall.

Jim Rogers stated that the levee board is very corrupt and built a casino, marina, hotel and bought a private jet, instead of using the money on the levee.
