Blanco vs. Barbour

Posted on 09/02/2005 6:14:12 AM PDT by jcb8199

I think it is curious that the state with the Dem for a governor is the state in chaos, while the state with a Repub gov. that was hit and hurt worse by Katrina is relatively calm.

I heard about Barbour saying "You loot, we shoot," and that the police and NG have "shoot to kill" orders. Is this true? If so, Hooray for the 2nd amendment... Anyone have a link to a story?

Glad you're back, and well, my friend....

Early this year, I scoffed at the "talk" of Haley for president..but he was very impressive, very decisive, and very reassuring in his various appearances this week...definitely has VP potential in 2008

I think that NO has had a long history of corrupt leaders and police. The mayor is a joke. He is like the invisible man. He just points a finger at everyone else and then runs away.

She needs to be thrown out of office--bodily. I have never seen anyone like her and the mayor. President Bush will be flying over NO and will not be on the ground. At least I think that is what was said on tv. He is stopping in MS. I would hate to think that I had to live under her so called "leadership".

It's quite evident that Blanco has no clue about how to handle this situation, and is surrounded by people that also are without a clue.

She is, as another post states, playing follow the leader (Barbour) - again a day late and a dollar short.

Just watching this thing unfold in slow motion makes me ill, mostly because it appears to me that there is no plan for such an eventuality, and if there is a local disater plan, no one is following it.

We are going to see a great deal of woulda-coulda-shoulda's.. and don't be surprised if the media plays favorites and blames the federal government (Bush/DoDHS Chertoff/DoFEMA Michael Brown) for all of this, instead of looking at the inaction of the locals.

our National Disaster Response plan is a disaster

Conspiracy theory: why was it so bad? Didn't we learn after Hurricane Andrew, Fran, and 9/11? If the president had some real steel, he would fire FEMA management from top to bottom and hire new blood (after this crisis). But I suspect politics plays so much in D.C., there is no hope.

The woman is pathetic. And I fear that a year or 2 from now the spin doctors will try to pump up her "I feel your pain" schlock. Worse, poor black people will continue to help elect Leftist idiots like her.

But, people looting for 'food' usually don't then burn the place to the ground when they get the last loaf of Butternut, nor carry out DVD players, Plasma TV's and Rolex watches.

Apparently, these guys are worse than thieves.  They shoot to keep rescuers from rescuing others.  They deserve a hail of bullets.

When order comes back and facts start flowing out, I'm real interested in knowing who those thugs are.  Random packs or organized gangs?  What?

How do they expect to get away with it?

our National Disaster Response plan is a disaster in a situation where local leadership sucks

Absolutely correct. Having worked on a LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) in my area, I whole heartedly concur.

Local people know best how to plan for their unique situations. There is no way that the Feds can mobilize, decend into your area of operation and fix everything.

Again, it's quite obvious to me that the people that were supposed to be coordinating the local response failed. The federal response is now the whipping boy for the media becuase they (for some reason) think it's the feds that are the first responders. Unreal.

Barbour said, in an interview on Monday, that the authorities in Mississippi had their orders to escalate response to any level necessary to maintain order, especially as it concerned looting.

He didn't specifically mention "Shoot to kill", but the message was crystal clear as I listened.

They have already gotten away with it, because master (race) baiter Al Sharpton and the like are saying the lawless are victims reacting to the unwillingness of the White Man and the Pharoah President to rescue them quickly enough.

Haley said they would treat looters "ruthlessly".
And, he said it before the storm hit.

Good article.
Thank you. ;o)

I dunno...
He seems to slim down before elections.
In fact, he cleans up really good.

I surely do like Haley!
