"The EETimes reports that Apple bought 40 percent of the NAND flash production of Samsung in the second half of this year. The report goes on saying that the flash memory would be used to replace the hard-drive in the 4GB iPod mini. A story on AppleInsider indicates that the 4GB iPod mini is going to be discontinued as availability has tightened. The more common rumor is that 2GB and 4GB iPod shuffle players will come."

"Sources had previously reported that Motorola and Apple would use the 7th of September to unveil the first of Motorola's iTunes ROKR cell phones. The phones will be the first product of Motorola's strategic partnership with Apple, aimed at enabling music fans to transfer their favorite songs from Apple's iTunes jukebox software to compatible Motorola mobile handsets. It was previously reported that Motorola was also looking into the rental of a studio venue in Manhattan to hold an east coast launch party for the phones."

"The Federal Communications Commission published some pictures and the manual for Motorola E790 – the much-discussed cell phone for use on U.S. mobile networks, on a government Web site... The i-Phone with VGA-quality camera, stereo speakers and the ability of holding a gigabyte of songs on removable “mini-SD” flash storage cards may be available sooner than we might expect. "Rumor has it that the new version, which is expected to be called 'iPod photo Software 1.2,' will be made available for download sometime this month. Packaged with the release will be a series of new transition effects for inclusion in photo slideshows. Some of these transitions are rumored to include 'mosaic,' 'cube,' and 'fade' effects. Users will reportedly be able to select and set transitions from a new transition menu. Anonymous sources also say the software update will pack a color version of the popular arcade game tetris. Users will be able to use the iPod photo's click-wheel to move the tetris blocks horizontally while the iPod click-button performs block rotation."

"Apple and The Doors -- Court documents obtained from the recent lawsuit against former Doors members Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, who had wanted to call their new band The Doors 21st Century, reveal that at one point Apple had offered $4 million for an unnamed Doors song for use in a commercial, while Cadillac had offered $15 million to use the song Break On Through. Krieger and Manzarek were sued by former Doors drummer John Densmore and the estate of Jim Morrisson more than two years ago for the new band name. During the trial's proceedings, which ended with a ruling against Kriger and Manzarek on May 9, 2005, it came to light that at one point in recent history Krieger and Densmore had wanted to accept the money Apple and Cadillac had offered but were rebuffed by Manzarek and Morisson's estate. A long-standing agreement between members of the Doors had stipulated that the band could only accept such offers if every member was in agreement. The impact and relevance of this information is admittedly of little significance today, but it serves as another interesting footnote in Apple's history. About 150 Doors tracks are available for sale on the iTunes Music Store. Krieger and Manzarek have since renamed their new gig DC21."
