OMG...you are laughable.

First, web servers are a product that MS actually tries to make money on, unlike IE.

So we should care about IE, which is free, having X market share, but shouldn't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain when it comes to web servers, which MS charges for?

Clue phone: We're talking about ownership of Web standards here. Not server revenue. Apache may, in fact, have the largest web server market share (on WWW, not within corporate firewalls, though), but the pages that it serves up are designed entirely for IE. Owning the front end is extraordinarily valuable to MS. It means that Apache and other web servers aren't in control of the content where the rubber meets the road... And, as I said earlier, I would prefer to see American commercial interests driving this facet of the Web, not a bunch of OSS zealots -- who would give away any American advantage to a bunch of foreign losers...
