The extra velocity given to the moon serves to take it to a higher orbit, where it settles in, a bit slower thn the initial velocity.

That's why rockets have to go fast to get into orbit.

If you mean, the higher the orbit, the slower the object, then no, that's not correct. The faster the satellite, the higher the orbit.

You can't fool me. Those equations have nothing to do with gravity. Those are the equations that describe greenshift.

Greenshift is what you observe when the guy next door makes a lot more money than you do. As his standard of living recedes from yours at an ever-greater speed, the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence.
