The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

How long to you have to stay? Can't you just eat and run?

It'll be alright. In the grand scheme of things... I'm sitting here outside on a gorgeous evening... nice comfy 70 or so, little breeze. A nice lady brings me drinks.

It could be worse. :-)

Well... they ran out of Wild Turkey, so I fell back on Jack D, and a Gordon Beirsh. Seems to be satisfactory.

*Sigh*

I'll have to freashen up the drink. You're predicament reminded me that I've got "diversity training" and a "self leadership" workshop next month.

*glug*

How does one lead oneself?

They really are gonna run out of names here...

They pick 21 names a year, skipping some letters. If they run out, they continue with Greek letters. Alpha is waiting for a storm to be named after.

I do have to admit I liked it better when they were always female names. Something poetic about that... :-)

Nothing personal, ladies... :-) Honest.

Sheesh.

Yah know... there *can* be good meetings. I've seen it happen. They're just so damn rare.

Haven't signed up for the "leadership" one yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm expected to go.

Just say no. :-) Say... "Sorry, but I just don't feel like it." hehheheh. Expectations are meant to be adjusted every now and then.

That's probably why stooopidmeetings keep happening. Nobody just says no. If more people would just say "No, I don't want to go to that, because it is stoopid." Then perhaps we could turn this thing around.

Either that, or start putting in requests for training for unusual things. Make the first one a two-week course at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. Tell them that your role of Safety Coordinator requires it.

That'll get some attention. :-)

Oh lordy. *rolls eyes*

There are some really terrific things about working for a big corporation, but workshops, trainings and meetings are NOT one of them.

Heh...the last "diversity training" I went through left out gays, so we figured they were fair game.

Well... I just paid one of my guys for a Comm Coll. course in Mandarin Chinese. Though... that does have some application. We just opened an office in Shanghai... and he already knew mandarin, and it was a refresher. But still... it looked really wierd in my PO authorization list. :-)

The Bondurant school is probably an easier sell than the two week Tactical Combat Pistol course at Front Site Academy. So here's what you do... put in for the Front Site course first... :-)

Sorta like a county sheriff I heard about that really needed a new truck. He new it would be denied, so he put in a request for a submarine, for searching local lakes. Then a helicopter. They finally asked if he'd settle for a new truck. Cha-ching. :-)

LOL!

Today's meeting was basically a run-down on our new bonus structure (twice a year instead of quarterly) and how we all should answer our phones all the time.

~sigh~

I did manage to restrain myself and didn't point out the irony of how we weren't answering our phones since we were stuck in a meeting about answering our phones.
