The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

They still have those $25 D.V. helmet/masks with the voice changers in 'em around here.

Supposedly fit us old folks too. I've half a mind to pick one up.

Rainy Washington. :-D

I'd love to come up and see how it compares to a Florida summer in terms of rainfall. :P

From ~indoors~, of course. *grin*

Aaaaack!

Speaking of company and such, I gots another letter from the college wanting to interview me fer a job. It isn't advertised...apparently they're pulling the top contenders that didn't quite make it in the last round of interviews.

Hm. So. There's that.

Man...now that's LOTS worse.

I really like musicals as a rule...and I always liked whatsisname in that show. But it has a really, really high stinker-to-decent-song ratio, IMO.

Or at least songs that are too catchy and (ultimately) obnoxious to live.

Now imagine it being sung off-key in falsetto...

Must I?

My earworm today:

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur
Infinie

Voyez
Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

La mer
Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A bercé mon coeur pour la vie

--Charles Trenet

Bobby Darin sang this as "Beyond the Sea".

Noooooooo!

*hands over ears*

Wait...that doesn't work against this particular means of inflicting earworms, does it?

A red hot poker in the eye would do it, I suppose.

But I don't happen to have a red hot poker.

*sigh*

We get it slower.

You get rain in these wild thundering downpours that don't last very long... we get it in these long periods of drizzle.
