Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Just read that thread attacking the USCG. What a bunch of ignoramuses come out of the woodwork sometimes! On this site.
BTW, while we're at it, someone should start a thread on how to spell "definitely." Where in the world do they get this definately from?

Same place they get "stuned" or "hugh" or "series". Question is, is it deliberate, or still ignorant?

And he called Guiseppe Verdi "Joe Green".That's funny...! I wonder if he came up with that before or after "Mean" Joe Green played for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

*sigh*
Every time I see someone say they want to loose x number of pounds, I can't help imagining someone dumping a pile of fat and saying "You're loose, little one! Run free, run free!"

Where in the world do they get this definately from?I have trouble with that one myself. I have to remind myself that "definitely" contains the word "finite", and spell it that way.
In my case, I think I want to put an "a" in place of the second "i", because that's how I pronounce it when I speak... as if there was an "a" there.

The ones that bug me are the people who use an apostrophe-s when they want to make a plural...

I took me awhile to figure out how to spell "unfortunately."
Females can just look things like that up in a dictionary, but guys don't ask directions, so I had to keep writing it until I got it right.
I think the "loose/definately" misspellings are sincere rather than intentional.

I've seen Victor Borge's spoof, too. There was also one show where he had a soprano guest star on to sing a Verdi aria. He was just PAINFULLY rude to her - a joke, of course, but making fun of sopranos. It was hilarious.Heh, I remember that one. He would stop playing every time she touched his piano.
Amazon has a bunch of his stuff on DVD

I will never in my life be able to spell "guarantee" without the help of a spell checker.
In fact, sometimes I foul it up so bad the spell checker can't even guess what I mean.

That's why I want to spell "definitely" with an "a"... because I pronounce the last two syllables the same way I pronounce them in "unfortunately".
