Since I sincerely doubt GE will do this, I'll do it for you:
From BusinessWeek:
Q: You're clearly the leader of the Linux movement, but what does that mean? How do you lead? Are you a benevolent dictator, as some have called you?
A: To be honest, the fact that people trust you gives you a lot of power over people. Having another person's trust is more powerful than all other management techniques put together. I have no legal or explicit power. I only have the power of having people's trust -- but that's a lot of power. I am a dictator, but it's the right kind of dictatorship. I can't really do anything that screws people over. The benevolence is built in. I can't be nasty. If my baser instincts took hold, they wouldn't trust me, and they wouldn't work with me anymore. I'm not so much a leader, I'm more of a shepherd. Now all the kernel developers will read that and say, "He's comparing us to sheep." It's more like herding cats.
And from Linux Gazette:
Alessandro: Bruce Perens claims "world domination: 2003"; is that realistic? In your opinion, will the concept of free software gain polularity in the mass market? In this respect, what's your opinion about the move of Netscape Corp.?
Linus: The "World Domination" thing is obviously always a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I think that yes, a five-year timeframe for the free software movement and Linux to make a major noticeable impact is not at all unrealistic. The Netscape open source thing is one of the first indications of this, and I think we'll see others doing similar things.
Actually, it's "GNU's Not Unix" (a recursive acronym, as it references itself).
I pointed out the fallacies in your logic, and pointed out how capitalist friendly Open Source is and you simply refuse to respond to this. I thought about this on my daily walk this morning - people like you are inherently anti-capitalist in some ways: you're only happy with proprietary software. This would raise the costs on startups immeasurably, and also raise the premium it would take for young people to learn how to code and discover how easy it is to start up their own businesses.
But obviously, this doesn't matter to you - so long as you can smear Linus Tovalds as a "communist", which is hysterical nonsense, and nothing you've said proves otherwise.
Finally, you bleat like a wounded sheep whenever you get hurt. Poor baby, poor petal, shall we get you a bandage for the scuffmarks on your obviously immense ego? You are just a complete prat who decides to spew ignorant excrement on Open Source threads. I'm not devoted to either Open Source or Windows - I think both have their place, but your behaviour, your ignorant namecalling - and it was you who insisted on spouting off that Open Source is communist first - marks you as a total piece of donkey excrement. As I said, I don't suffer fools. If you acted like such a total arse in my face I would have put my fist through your gob - as I said, I don't suffer fools, and I refuse to suffer you without you understanding in what contempt I hold you.
You can either shut up or I'll continue to flame you.
Ivan
He's an ignorant fool. Karma demands that he is gang raped by a herd of billy goats high on methamphetamines.
Regards, Ivan
I am not a big Open Source devotee by any means - but this fellow is the best advertisement Open Source has. Proprietary software companies ought to fear the negative advertising that utter prats perform for them.
Regards, Ivan
I tend to be more an OSS advocate than most people on this site but even I cant argue that there is a time and place for every tool, and every license model.. I don't begrudge MS their right to keep their source code to themselves, sell it and make a buck. Heck I even buy it from time to time..
- but this fellow is the best advertisement Open Source has.
Yea I guess I never looked at it that way, anyone who is not coming from the attitude 'linux is for commies', would most likely be turned off by his tactics.
Have a nice walk
...While Bill Gates wants to personally saw off peoples arms.
Think we can start using this quote whenever he brings up this tripe again?
Windows 2000 already contains features such as the human discipline component, where the PC can send an electric shock through the keyboard if the human does something that does not please Windows.
We've got to put a lot of money into changing behavior.
Hey! Taking quotes out of context is quite fun! No wonder GE does it so often.
You call that a flame? Seriously? You obviously haven't seen what the real fanatics are capable of. But I can handle any of it, easily, since I have all the facts on my side, and all you boys have is insults.
"GE . . . raising the bar.
Hmmmmmmm. That's better
than 'Shop before you buy.'"
You didn't read the thing through, obviously. And in terms of having facts...you have none. You didn't respond to the ones I presented. You didn't respond to the ones the others presented. Only a blinkered idiot runs around yapping like a demented poodle on speed barking "I won! I won!" on such little evidence of having done so.
Ivan
You think calling me anti-capitalist even deserved a response? Who do you think you are kidding? The oldest trick in the book, accuse me of what you are guilty of. Obviously didn't fly, and never will with me.
Oh, here's what you called "little evidence" again, since you still haven't refuted any of it. If you think you have something better I can show you how to paste the link, if necessary.

And yes, the GNU is absolutely anti-capitalist. Did you read their "Manifesto"? Here it is since you can't seem to find it on your own.
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/manifesto.html
Here's their history and goals page, whose final statement is "to make all proprietary software obsolete":
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-history.html
Here's the personal homepage of their founder, overflowing with anti-US rhetoric:

And yes, Red Hat does follow the GNU manifesto and give their products away to communist governments, who love them so much they pass laws requiring its use.

Trace back through this thread. I started off by being polite to you. You decided to be a hysterical moonbat - and now you're just entrenching this impression - I presented logical, cogent arguments as to why Open Source is not anti-capitalist. I also pointed out how it helps capitalism by lowering costs of entry to the market. It's not my fault that you are a hysterical, idiot moonbat that sees Communists lurking in Linux code.
Your links have already been thoroughly debunked by the other posters on this thread. Just because you repeat hysterical moonbat nonsense, does not make it true - this is not a site where Goebbels tactic of a repeating a lie until it is true works.
You can either shut up or I'll continue to insult you. Either way, you're not going to change my mind nor anyone else's. You're only making yourself look even more like a hysterical moonbat.
Ivan
Torvalds was active in the Communist Party while he was a college student during the 1960s. His political beliefs developed after learning of the atrocities committed against communist sympathizers in Finland. In his son Linus' book, he is reported having lost enthusiasm for Communism.
From Wikipedia - Oops on your part.
Ivan
No they haven't. All those fools do is whine about Microsoft, as if that's an excuse for Linux. Use a real Unix, if you don't like MS.
hysterical moonbat
Moonbat's are leftists in my book. I just gave you a dozen or more proven links between your precious open source and them, starting with the top of the DNC. Those idiots are trying to pass laws requiring open source software, in lockstep with the GNU Manifesto of making all proprietary software obsolete. Yet you run cover for that operation, and attack me for pointing it out. Pretty obvious where your allegiance lies.
LMAO, this is the best you can come up with, to expect me to take HIS word for it?!?!?! Again, are you freaking kidding me? You've obviously overdosed on the BS, but don't expect me to ever fall for it.
I use a variety of toolsets. I don't limit myself to one. You're the one who has a bug up your rectum about Linux.

Yes, my allegiance is to people who aren't a**holes. You are one, and an uninformed one at that. It's clear that you simply don't want to deal with what I or anyone else wants to say. If you don't like what others have to say, you're going to run around in circles, sticking fingers in your ears and saying "la la la I'm not listening." I'm speaking as someone who came to this thread with an open mind. You decided to act like a complete jackass, and quite frankly, if you want to hurt the Open Source movement, shut your stupid, ignorant mouth you festering piece of Parisian sewer slime. Pretentious idiot wankers such as yourself who haven't a clue and are certain they know everything are the best advertisement that Open Source has.
Ivan
I should have known better. Things like facts, which Linus had no incentive to mention (it really makes no difference to 99.99% of people whether his DAD was a Communist or not) wouldn't matter to you.
If there was a big witch hunt for Linus because his father was a Communist, then you might have a case for saying he's lying. As there is no witchhunt, except in the fever swamps you inhabit, there is no such incentive, and we can judge it to be more reliable information.
But this sort of thing doesn't occur to blinkered morons like yourself.
