Who's testing positive for steroids now...(3 More MLB Positives 2 in AL, One in NL for 'The Rocket?
The Reds Reporter ^ | 8/18/05

Posted on 08/18/2005 6:20:03 PM PDT by gopwinsin04

This reporter is hearing about 2 more positive steroid tests, two in the American League and one in the National League.

The story was confirmed by multiple sources inside Major Leage Baseball who say that the Roger 'The Rocket' Clemens is in the process of appealing the decision. (of a 10 game automatic suspension for steriods for the future Hall of Famer )

Take it with a grain of salt but it wouldn't suprise me in the least if this comes out in the next few days.

I believe this pending announcement could be the one that 'brings baseball to its knees.'

Given that hockey has given over to obscene brutality, baseball's record book is dominated by steroids, and basketball players have a reputation for crime, football is relatively clean. At least in football, the official policy is that they do care about keeping it clean, which seems to be light years ahead of baseball.

Something wrong with a 43 year old pitcher who has a 1.43 ERA and a .255 slugging average

I just saw flutie throw a td pass in an nfl preseason game. Isn't he like 50 ?

Doug Flutie is one of the greatest quarterbacks in football history. I won't say he's the best ever. But definitely top two.

Yes I'm a BC fan :)

It's interesting that Clemens had 3 or 4 very mediocre years at the end of his time in Boston. That is why Boston let him go. Could he have started on hte juice when he went to Toronto? It seems like his career was completely rejuvenated since then.

Clemens actually rejuvenated the 2nd half of his last season with the Sox. You know, right before becoming a free agent. The general theory is he wasn't dedicating himself fully.

That would explain the good pitching and idiotic behavior over the years.

Clemens only had two "mediocre" seasons. I know, because I had him on my roto team for both. Reason #2 why he's about the only old athlete's I never liked.

Reason #1 is that he's a psychopath. Which is why I always suspected that he was a "juicer". Although, I suspect "'roid rage" is a myth like everything else we hear about this overblown "crisis".

PS - He's having one of the most phenomena years anyone's ever had - at 43! And in that Wiffle Ball stadium. Amazing!

It is common for a long acting injection of methylprednisolone to be administered into an aching joint or back. If the test is a broad test, these would be picked up after a month or two after the injection. Now if the test was specific for anabolic steroids that is a different story. A bone spur, arthritis, and degenerative joint disease are all valid reasons to use steroids. I don't believe that MLB could fault anyone that had steroids in their system for those reasons.

I personally had a bone spur that was excruciatingly painful that responded to a 40mg injection of methylprednisolone injected right into the scapulo-humoral joint. One shot a year ago and its not been back (crossed fingers).

You know, this is a pretty serious break for me as a less government kind of guy, but I would love to see the federal government pass this law.

If you play pro sports in the USA, One failed steroid test=banned for life from US pro sports.

This is one case where I agree with the international standard. Our government just has to have the balls to do it.

I wonder what his stats may have been if he could have been on the juice.

I have said this on other threads...There is no player today who could TOUCH Ruth or Mantle. Ruth and Mantle were drunks. Alcohol is a perfomance inhibiting drug. Imagine what they could have done sober or juiced on roids.

I don't watch any pro sports because they have been ruined for a couple of reasons, steroid use being one of them.

All the cheaters' records should be thrown out. Ther are fake, phonies and frauds.

Posted on the Boston Dirt Dogs website:

Major League Baseball officials received at least a dozen phone calls yesterday regarding a rumor MLB was about to announce that Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon had tested positive for steroids, with an announcement coming today. "Total BS," one official said. MLB and the players' union had released a joint press release last week, vehemently denying that more prominent players had tested positive in the aftermath of Rafael Palmeiro's failed test. -- 8.18, from Gordon Edes' Red Sox notebook

"I just think people want to start something with anybody. I'd be more than happy to take any test. There's no way. If I tested positive for something, it's going to be because someone threw something in a drink or did something like that. I'm used to that stuff happening to me this year. There's been so many rumors in my personal life in Boston that it's been absolutely crazy. Rumors don't bother me. I know the person I am. What else can you do about it? You're in the spotlight. There's people in Hollywood that deal with it all the time. Our team is the closest thing to Hollywood in baseball." -- 8.18, Johnny Damon on the bogus internet chat board steroid rumors that have littered email inboxes over the last few days

If they find out that both Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon tested positive for anything related to steroids, it would rock MLB to its very foundations, that's to be sure. But frankly, I kind of don't believe this story, especially now with the scrutiny after the Rafael Palmiero (sp?) debacle.
